ok, i know its not very exciting but i am desperate. have told dp if the house isnt on the market this week i am leaving him. it has been getting done up for far too long now, its 18 months past deadline!

so we need really fast flooring for kitchen and bathroom.

would you be put off by a bathroom carpet if it was brand new?

what about cork tiles in bathroom?

kitchen tiles take too long and we dont like laminate. also kitchen floor is rather wobbly concrete. cant sand bathroom floorboards cos they are not good enough.

need some inspiration please, cant see anything exciting on web

Is this for the house you're selling or the house you're moving to? Confused

I can't stand carpet in the bathroom, ever.

desperatehousewife · 26/09/2005 08:58

reclaimed floorboards?
Rubber (it's great, but very expensive)
cork tiles definatley over carpet in bathroom

Or you tell estate agent that you are leaving the floors unfinished so that the new buyer can put down whatever they want and that the price of the property reflects this or something.

for the house we are selling. trying to make it look presentable as possible for as little money and time as possible! was a bit worried about bathroom carpets but would it put you off the whole house?

or just put a good looking plain vinyl down (like lino, but better quality)

Hulababy · 26/09/2005 09:01

If for the house you are selling - don't go mad. Just get something reasonably priced that is plain and simple, but looks good.

No carpet in bathroom though!

Vinyl for both would be fine, or laminate it kitchen (know you don't like it but many potential buyers do).

emkana · 26/09/2005 09:01

I would say vinyl for the bathroom, there's some really good ones around. Also why not consider laminate if it's the house you're selling? We have laminate in the kitchen that looks like slate (sp?) tiles and it's been fantastic - still looks great, very easy to clean, hardly ever looks dirty (!)... my friend has it too and is very happy. You can get sooooooooo many different styles/colours... worth looking at IMO esp. for a kitchen.

hadnt considered lino stuff for some reason. quite like that idea

My house is on the market at the mo and I HATE carpet in bathrooms, most buyers do (according to that Selling Houses blokey off the telly). We have nice ceramic tiles on all our bathroom floors (in the kitchen too), but they are pretty expensive and take a while to lay properly. I'd say go with a nice neutral, medium/good quality vinyl but get it laid properly. The cheapest flooring laid well looks better than expensive flooring laid badly.

gigglinggoblin · 26/09/2005 09:06

i thought you only got pretend wood laminate which wouldnt look right cos we have floorboards through rest of house. slate tiles sound v interesting.

good point ndp, we really dont want to do tiles cos they will take ages to do properly. looks like carpet is definate no-no, even brand new

thanks for ideas, will suggest to dp. going out for 1st taster session at nursery with ds3 but will check back when i come home incase anyone has any other ideas i can sell to him!

Our new house has got vinyl down in bathrooms and kitchen/ytily. It is really good quality stuff and looks great. You can get all sorts of designs - wooden effect, tiles, patterned or plain. There are different qualities available too and costs vary with it.

When selling I wouldn't spend too much on anything though.

emkana · 26/09/2005 09:10

here you can see the different styles of laminate flooring you can get

Enid · 26/09/2005 09:16

deffo plainish vinyl in bathroom, NOT carpet (tbh it would put me off whole house)

if you are the new owner you wont feel guilty about ripping up plain vinyl.

Also those laminate floor tile type things for kitchen

the woman who sold our house just painted the bathroom floorboards white and they look really nice, in fact we still have them (although they are really too knackered now)
