Sorry I don't know what I meant then

What I was going to say was we are doing the same. Family/playroom type thing

katymac · 25/09/2005 19:40

Lean to, south facing, too hot - but lovely and warm in the winter (underfloor heating)

It is a playroom for childminded children, an office and a quiet room/homework room.......

What sort of flooring/furniture/lighting have you all got?

Is a fan thingy really necessary? Anyone have carpet?

we have an old one off the kitchen. It is boiling in summer and freezing in winter. We use it as a dining room occasionally, but mostly a glorified porch full of wellies and a messy play room for ds. At the moment it is full of painting easles and a sand and water tray.

I would love a posh one with blinds and nice flooring.

ours is an open plan conservatory joining our kitchen to our den/study.
It is the best thing we have ever done to our house as it is where we spend all our time!
Because it is open plan we use it so much more

It has comfy chairs and our dining table in it , it leads on to our den so it is also used for kids tv, comp, games, chilling children etc...

We have laminate tiles, would never have carpet as it has access to the garden.

Also make sure you have a light reflective material for your roof, ours was opal I think, then you will never have need for a fan.

Ours is south facing and can be the coolest part of the house!

what sort of roof do you have triceratops? Woman who I work with has just paid a fortune for one with a super duper glass roof which she says will keep it quieter when it rains and also help control temperature. Needless to say we're having polycarb!

polycarb of course. with fetching algae. but I can't get up there to clean it due to pregnancy.

gingerbear · 27/09/2005 17:04

A tip.
Used as a utility room /dumping ground for wellies, sports gear and recycling crates.

Nbg · 27/09/2005 17:07

We use ours for a quiet/need space/stay away from me room.

We have a sofa, rocker chair, tv and in 11 days time a ELC Sizzlin kitchen, yipee!

Mum2girls · 27/09/2005 17:08

Ours is a toy room - it was meant to be a quiet away-from-it-all room, but it is packed to the gills with brightly coloured plastic.

Nbg · 27/09/2005 17:09

Oh and it's tiled with open brick work and wide wood window sills.

I would deffo get a fan although in the summer it makes no difference to the heat what so ever.

melsy · 27/09/2005 17:26

Our is open from the kitchen with 3ft wide step centered into it from kitchen and where old windows and external wall I presume would have been, we have a counter top that sits at edge of it on both sides. We have dark chocolate venetianson all windows , medium damson type colour walls , an EXTRA EXTRA large coffee 6ft sofa at one end and a smaller version at opposite end. we have tv in there and a small 2 door sideboard for toys in a light chocolat thakat style. Its a little singapore colonial feel. dd plays in there when we are at home and its a great space for family partys , and when cooking and cleaning kitchen , I can watch what dd up to!!

melsy · 27/09/2005 17:29

We have laminate floor , which Im really not liking any more, would love qaurry or stone something in the future , oh and its West facing I think , so not too bad in hot summers with doors open. POlycarb algae roof though Im afraid ,as dh and I havent had a chance to scrub it.

Whizzz · 27/09/2005 17:53

Ours doesn't get much sun (so no need for fan) but its lovely. Gable end, solid walll with windows along the top on one side (boundary with neighbours). Laminate floor (does get cold), 2 Ikea sofas + dresser type thing. I've now adopted it as my craft space !

I was horrified at the cost of blinds though so don't forget to budget for those !
