Anyone got a car from Yes car credit or Welcome car finance ??

We are having increasing car probs and it seems that our car is on it's way out.

Dp has to have a car to get to work and so we were thinking of trying either one of those places. I know they don't have very good reputations but we have bad credit history and so normal places will be a no go.

Basically I need to know if anyone has a car from either place and the type of monthly repayments we would be looking at for a medium sized family car.

TIA

can you borrow a car?

fairydust · 23/09/2005 17:20

nutty - msn i need ya

LIZS · 23/09/2005 17:20

Can you go to CAB and ask them to work out what you can really afford to repay and they may be able to suggest alternatives or at least where to avoid.

In the meantime is it not at all possible for dp top get to work another way - walk, get a lift etc and look into either borrowing a car or getting to Blackpool by train instead - it may not work out as expensive as you think, especially compared to petrol and so on, if you buy a Family Railcard and go off peak.

misdee · 23/09/2005 17:24

i really detest these companies who are basically taking advantage pof the 'poor'. you cant get credit cos of bad credit in the past, so you are forced to go with whoever will offer you a loan, and pay higher rates of interest, to plunge your further into debt and into more bad credit. and so it goes on.

Nemo1977 · 23/09/2005 17:27

nutty if i passed the carcraft finance check you may do to hun...I swear I was in a horrendous situation[not really much different to now..lol] Thing is with carcraft the loan is secured on the car so suppose they always havea way to get the car back.

nutcracker · 23/09/2005 17:29

Just looked at the carcraft site and their cars seem really affordable so will investigate them a bit more.

Yes dp menationed about going to blackpool by train. We could do cos we are only going for a nght so won't need much stuff.

Will check that out too.

Thanks for all the help guys.

misdee, quite agree - they are just taking advantage of a rotten situation. Better to try to break out of the viscious circle and not feed these companies profits, although it is not as easy as it sounds.

lilsmum · 23/09/2005 17:36

i havent got a car through welcome but...
me and dp got a personal loan two and half years ago..we borrowed £2.5k we are paying £167 per month for 3 years...apr is something like 48%

DONT DO IT!! welcome as AS bad as yes car credit!!

misdee · 23/09/2005 17:42

LIZS i know its hard. basdically we were in finaicial shite. i have basically been clearing debts for years, atm i have a small catalogue payments and one old loan to clear. it was originall for 6k. because we fell behind and incurred charges over a 3year period, the loan was refinanced last year at 5.5k (after 12months of clearing the back paymets at 180pounds a month), one year later its now 3.5k. i am soi glad to see the figure going down and can see the end to this last loan from our period of bad times. to say goodbye to that and the final payment will be a breaking open the bubbly moment. Peter doesnt want large debts, so has talked meout of a 3.5k car i wanted, and persuded to to look at one that is 1.5k so hopefully wont need a loan for that once i get my cheque.

there were so many time i could've fallen victim to yes car credit, or provident (used provident a couple of times for vouchers in dire need but dont rely on them) and got myself into a worse situation. its been hard, no denying that, but i am lucky in that my parents will help out with getting things on credit.

princesspeahead · 23/09/2005 17:43

my housekeeper's daughter bought a car from yes car credit and then emigrated to australia, leaving her mum to sort it out. the interest rate was so high I felt it could possibly be illegal - to get out of the agreement they had to pay a complete fortune. I really really wouldn't go there. it HAS to be better to get a smaller/cheaper/older car or bite the bullet and spend on the repairs that need to be done.
or if you have a friend that knows about cars, to go to an auction? there can be bargains, and this is a good time of the year to look (change in licence plate month hence a lot of second hand stuff on the market)...

Ok have discounted yes and welcome cos they scare me half to death.

Carcraft have some very affordable cars on their site but i don't thinkn we'd pass a credit check so not sure what we are going to do at the mo. My dad is away until monday so will have to speak to him about it then.

Misdee - It's so crap being in debt isn't it. I hate it so much.

Hiya Nutty (swiper here!) We had a car through Yes car credit don't go through them. They are a nightmare and their cars are crap. Our car now is through welcome and so far we've had no probs with them. 200.00 a month for a 7 grand car.

nutcracker · 23/09/2005 18:50

Do they do cheaper cars though Swiper ?? We could only manage £100 a month really.

OP posts:
Zephyrcat · 23/09/2005 18:54

I thnk so - they did that by working out how much we could afford to pay a month then told us which cars we could choose from. If you already have a car they knock 1000 off the price regardless of what your car is. Give them a ring and see what they offer you and what the repayments are like - you don't have to sign anything

nutcracker · 23/09/2005 18:55

Ok will do, thanks

we looked at yes car credit, but didn't have to use them in the end as reg vardy financed me with my dad as guarantor, however not sure if it is such a good deal as i first thought, as car is 54 reg ford focus and i am paying £175 a month over 5 years!! the problem i had was my car had been written off, the insurance money hadn't come through so i had no deposit but needed to buy a car asap for work as my courtesy car was due back the next day.

I must say though that the service has been very good, it was in effect a new car 26 miles on the clock, supposed ex demo and at £3000 less than an unregistered car.

it may be worth checking but reg vardy do finance for poor credit ratings as well. on first sight yes car credit didn't seem all that bad, i thought that after the watchdog thing that they had cleaned up their image and the stock of cars in oxford was very good!

nutcracker · 23/09/2005 19:01

Thanks Vicki will check Reg Vardy out too.

vickiyumyum · 23/09/2005 19:15

you can apply on line as well! (this is what i did first so as not to be embarrased in the showroom and when they declined me i asked my dad to guarantor)

nutcracker · 23/09/2005 19:17

Yeah i've just looked and their prices don't seem too bad, pretty similar to Carcraft.

My dad might possibly be a garuntor, not sure, i'd have to creep lots and buy Greggs entire stock of doughnuts i think.

nutty, we got our car from car craft last year, my dh was self-employed with no real proof of income, I didn't work, credit history not great and we got one. We went to the one by Ikea Jnt 9

Tortington · 23/09/2005 20:34

ermm yes. we have a yes car credit car becuase well...because we managed to fk up our finances over a 15 year period and i needed a new car.

yes they said they would take our car as deposit - but we would have to wait and see what they got at auction for it - we may as well sell it privatley they said - so we did - and we thought we would get money off, but we didnt.

we were there all day. we took the right documents - we made sure, we knew it would be a piss a bout, we phoned them up and asked them what we needed to bring and then we phoned again on a different day and asked again - even then we bought more documents than we were asked to bring.

then they wanted proof of my last tenancy - "oh i said " i used to work for the landlord - i know their number you can ring them and ask to verify"
away she went
" well my boss said they could lie for you as you worked there they could be your friends"

cant remember how we got over that actually.

ended up we had been there allllllllllll day over 6 hours, i was complaining to my dh that i didnt want to pay the extortionate interest and then he started having a go at me
there we were in some pokey little del boy office and they bought the papers in and said to sign them. my dh was relieved and was eager to sign.

i looked at the agreement they wanted to sign - and didnt tell us the interest rate btw - i am very clear on that. and i saw in small bold writing the amount of interest they wanted us to pay. and i just broke down in tears - they treated us like poo and criminals all day - knowing we were obviously desperate if we had to come to them in the first place. my dh had his twat head on and i just signed.

my dh knew he had pushed it too far, he then saw the amount of interest we were expected to pay and lost the plot and told them that we wernt going to pay it. that our record wasn't that bad and we had supplied all the evidence they needed. she went away and came back much later with a revised interest rate of over half. they also said that we could exchange the car after a year and they would further revise the interest. this though am afraid was bollocks becuase we had nothing in writing a year on they said they jknew nothing about it. you live and learn

its still way too much but i absolutley need a car for my job - no car = no job i really do have no choice.

in fairness the car is great , i love it, it only had 6k on the clock it was only 18 months old - and they ae usually at least 2 years old. its been 3 years. and we havent had a problem with the car.

but driving away the same day is what we did but we fking fought for it, argued with them and each other and checked and doubled checked to bring the right documentation.

its an arseache and they treat you like they are the ones doing them a favour - rather than you being treated like a customer.

the waiting area was as bad as i remember the dss to be - skanky, dirty, chairs with holes in. however it did have an overpriced shitty coffee machine - everything about it said " we are here to rip off the less fortunate....come on dickheads"

and we did!

misdee · 23/09/2005 20:40

custardo, can i ask how much was the interest originally?

charliecat · 23/09/2005 20:42
