Motherhood as a life-changing event

How has motherhood changed you as a person? Your confidence, your outlook on life, your career?

I feel a lot more confident since becoming a mother, to the extent that more career options are available to me that weren't before, despite the added complications that motherhood brings to my life!

I know other people though, who feel less confident than they did before having children. Particularly if they had a high-powered job before, for example, they look back at that time and can't imagine themselves having the confidence to do what they used to do.

What is your story?

Feeling cynical today but this sounds a bit of a posed question...

Motherhood has dramatically changed my life. Not for better and not for worse. It is just different from what it was before.

I had a very stressful job and at 41 was ready to accept the change that motherhood would bring. I did find it extremely difficult at first though. Having worked for over 20 years and being used to do what I wanted when I wanted I found it a shock to be at the beck and call of a tiny helpless human being. The lack of sleep was horrendous as well.

By the time DD was born I was pretty confident and still am. I now work part time as it fits in nicely with childcare. I don't feel the need for a career as I had already done that and got the T-shirt. Besides, the type of work I did wasn't, IMO, compatible with being a mother.

DD had serious medical issues when she was a baby and spent a lot of time in hospital, so my priorities are different now - my family always comes first and anything else takes second place.

I'm not a magazine! Now you say it it does look a bit like that. Actually I am just getting ideas for a college project.
