Can anyone suggest books that might be a good introduction to the techniques?

Thank you.

Do you want to use them as a practitioner or have CBT yourself? If the latter, there is a CBT for Dummies book that is quite good and the "Overcoming..." books are a good self-help series with a CBT approach. "Mind Over Mood" (Greenberger & Padesky) is an excellent workbook if you want to try some exercises. If you are thinking of training in CBT the Judith Beck books are a good start, and the Oxford Book of Behavioural Experiments and Wells Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Anxiety Disorders.

lizzabadger - thanks for your suggestions.

I am interested personally in the CBT techniques. After a long time in psychotherapy, I would like to learn about developing some practical skills to address/change patterns of thought/behaviour in a constructive way, instead of always talking about 'why'.
