I have 4 mates coming for dinner on Saturday and one of them is from Brazil so thought it would be nice to have a slight theme - anyone know any nice, and not too tricky - Brazilian receipes?

Just posted on the other thread!

Do a lot of business with guys from Brazil - I have never been allowed to visit but they all come back with great tales of BBQ Pits and restaurants where you can just have huge steaks and stuff - may be a good idea though to give your friends good old English Cuisine (I presume you are English) my boss is Indian but grew up in Australia and he said that he hates it when people try and give him Indian food as they think he misses it - he said he woudl much prefer to sample the food of the country he is visiting as he gets enough of his regional cuisine at home.

You could give them Cottage Pie or Toad in the Hole or a nice roast dinner or Sausage and Mash or Fish Pie (Jamie Olivers one is great!!)

Boe - Yeah I was going to mix it up a bit. I just get into the whole thing and like to have a kind of theme so it helps me to decide what to cook. Like when i did a Carribean meal for mates and we had jerk chicken and yam and stuff and I thought I might make soemthing with a slightly Brazilian twist. But I do know what you're saying and with that in mind won't try too hard with the Brazil thing. Failing all that Jamie's fish pie is great isn't it.

Lou & Furball- you're loves - checking them out now

Thomcat - you could find some sort of Brazilian Fish and stick that in the Fish Pie!!

metired · 19/08/2003 12:02

I can give you a recipe for the easiest pudding in the world - lemon crunch - its sort of like a cheescake, never goes wrong, takes less than 10 minutes to make and tastes gorgeous, but its not from brazil

ThomCat · 19/08/2003 12:05

Go on then metired that sounds fab, thanks.

Boe - LOL - I like your style!

yes, please, metired, post that recipe NOW! It'll make a difference from all the chocolate that's become a basic foodstuff in the exhausted kitchens of Casa Inferiore...

prufrock · 19/08/2003 12:32

Do trad english food but serve them these

ThomCat · 19/08/2003 14:13

easy peasy pudding
take 1 large pack of ginger biscuits and crunch them up to tiny peices - mix them with melted butter to make the base - put in a flan dish and push them down firmly - put in fridge
take 2/3 pint of double cream and mix in a bowl with a tin of condenced milk (nestle or fussell's), in another bowl take juice and zest from 3 to 4 lemons (depending on how lemony you want it) mix with cream and condenced milk,it will start to thicken straight away - pour over ginger biscuit base and hey presto easy peasy lemon crunch. keep in fridge until you need it, also keeps well overnight.

Have lots of recipes for easy puddings as I am abit of a pudding queen - probably why I am no longer size 8

fio2 · 19/08/2003 16:01

Have a nice time Thomcat, gotta be honest though my dinner parties usually consist of a massive takeaway from the Indian-so no cooking tips of me then

ThomCat · 19/08/2003 17:17

Metired - for your candles and your scrummy easy pudding - I thank you!

my pleasure
another easy pudd -
take 2 packets of choc chip cookies, mash into crumbs mix with melted butter to make a base, put into flan dish and press in firmly - put in fridge.
Take 3/4 pint double cream, large tub of philadelphia cheese and whip with food mixer add icing sugar until it tastes sweet and yummy.
Melt some chocolate in microwave, mix with about 1 teaspoon of liquid glucose (stops it from setting) then stir into cream and cheese mix until it looks marbled, pour on top of base and you have a gorgeous chocolate marble cheesecake. Just don't think about the calories

ThomCat · 19/08/2003 17:34

I never think about calories - used to be size 8, now lucky to get into a 12! Am I happy - hell yes, I love food!!!!!

Prufrock - you've got a lot to answer for! Served those drinks you suggested - OMG - we were all smashed and one of my frinds gor really lary and lound and annoying and my other friend woke up at 4 and was sick until 12 the next day - she was already a bit too drunk to remember that she can't do cocktails! We had a lovely meal first and we had them at about 11.30 - the rest is a blur!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!
