I have a confession to make - does anyone else do this?

There are various bits and bobs around our house that we occasionally need to get rid of - H's old wellies, ready steady cook marshmallow maker, polystyrene, etc, etc.

And there's a public dustbin enticingly next to the seat where I wait for the bus to pick up dds.

Is that terrible? How do you lot get rid of stuff like that?

Take it the local tip, recycle it or take any stuff that's in good condition to charity shops. I wouldn't dump it in a bin on the street.

sparklymieow · 16/09/2005 09:44

I throw them out the rubbish.

jampots · 16/09/2005 09:44

same as NDP

sparklymieow · 16/09/2005 09:45

I mean the wellies and marshmellow maker would go the chartity shop or tip, but the polystyrene would go in the rubbish bag

Flossam · 16/09/2005 09:45

Why can't you throw it out with your own rubbish?

bonym · 16/09/2005 09:45

Same as NDP here.

crazydazy · 16/09/2005 09:46

I take some things to Charity Shops like toys and books but other things that are broken and even old clothes I just put into the dustbin!!!

Carla · 16/09/2005 09:47

NDP, we recycle everything. But you can't recycle worn old wellies. And I can't get to the local tip, so at the mo our garden looks like one.

SM, I've put bags of Duplo and sticklebricks out in rubbish bags - weeks ago - but H refuses to put them out for the bin men. Maybe they should go in, too ...

See if Freecycle operate in your area - someone mught want the stuff! Otherwise I'd either leave it with the normal rubbish or take it to the tip.

The only thing I've sneaked into a litter bin was a whole chicken that had gone out of date and didn't want DH to have a go at me .

flamesparrow · 16/09/2005 09:49

Why can't you put them out yourself?

NomDePlume · 16/09/2005 09:50

TBH, I keep a box in the garage and any odds and sods for the tip get chucked in there and when it's full or we have a clearout we do a tip run. Tne local tip is only about 15 mins drive away.

If the stuff is quite small and I couldn't get to the tip then I'd probably break it down as small as I could (polystyrene in particular) and put it in black bin bags for the normal rubbish collection.

Enid · 16/09/2005 09:50

I take most stuff to the tip or the charity shop, old worn wellies and all

morningpaper · 16/09/2005 09:50

Carla why does your HUSBAND refuse to put them out for the binmen? Are you incapable of carrying rubbish down the path? Just leave them out and see if they'll take them.

My local children's nurseries all collect old welly-boots for 'flower displays' by the way.... (don't ask me why...)

crazydazy · 16/09/2005 09:51

Its a man's job, the bin!!! DP has always done it as its a great big thing and very heavy when full!!! They are not expected to do much by way of housework.....its his goddamn duty

panickinglikemad · 16/09/2005 09:51

freecycle

Carla · 16/09/2005 09:51

LOL PLM - I'm always throwing stuff out from our fridge that has gone out of date - but somehow, fridge stuff seems legitimate in you dustbin.

Will look up Freecycle, thanks for that. Oxon's quite good for recycling, but it's just them things

Someone had a fantastic flower display using their children's old wellies, wish I had thought of it before as DSs have had some very cute wellies in the past that would have made lovely 'flower pots'.
