Boring but important question - how do I get burn marks off a Denby Plate?

I heated up some lasagne in the oven on a Denby plate - put the oven on too hot, left it in too long - now I have brown marks all over the white centre of the plate . I have tried scrubbing at them with a green scrubby thing and soaking it in hot water, to no avail. No dishwasher - what can I do to get the stains off?

You could try Cif (formerly Jif) on a scrubby thing - it's usually pretty good at shifting marks like that.

Thanks Aero - you don't think I might have damaged the glaze though?

It says ovenproof on the bottom...[sulk]

Presumably it is not just burnt on food ? Hate to say it but under the coloured glaze the body of the plate would be a sort of browny colour. However the glaze is fired at v v hot temperatures so would have thought it shgould have been ok.

One of those white "magic stain remover" sponge thingys?

Aero · 15/09/2005 18:35

I shouldn't have thought so Miaou for the reasons LIZS mentioned. I've put mine in the oven before and they've been ok, though not burnt anything yet on one, so don't know for sure. Pretty pricey to replace too - annoying.

philippat · 15/09/2005 18:44

I'm pretty sure it's 500+ degrees before you can melt the glaze, so unless you were seriously nuking the lasagne you won't have hurt that (the oven proof is usually about it not cracking at high temperature).

sterilising tablets is my fave on removing marks from ceramics.

Miaou · 15/09/2005 22:48

Yes, phillipat, I well and truly nuked my lasagne - I am so crap in the kitchen, I can't even heat up effectively!!!

Thank you for all your suggestions, I shall try them out and let you know what works!! Replacement isn't even an option, they discontinued the pattern about a year after we got married

some people say that denture tablets will get stains off ANYTHING.
might be worth it, if only for the entertainment of going to boots to buy some...

miaou - if you can't get the mar off, try going to Stoke on Trent and checking the Pot Factory outlet shops.

philippat · 16/09/2005 07:41

is it one of these?

Miaou · 16/09/2005 09:57

No, I think it's one of these , although when we bought it it was called Denby Regatta service, but can't find any record of a pattern called Regatta [puzzled emoticon]

Rather like the idea of buying denture tablets - hehehe

Try a china matching service like this one which has stock of Regatta or email Denby at [email protected]
for their recommended matching service companies or in case they happen to have any residual stock. They normally notify you that a pattern is being discontinued about 6 months to a year in advance of its last manufacture and then hold stock to avoid displays in stores becoming fragmented. You may yet be lucky .

suedonim · 16/09/2005 12:04

Miaou, I got some additional Denby stuff via Ebay. My pattern, Tasmin, was discontinued at least 10yrs ago I reckon, but new/unused bits & pieces still seem to be floating about.

Miaou · 16/09/2005 12:15

Thanks for that - dd broke a sideplate a couple of months ago (first ever breakage!!) so I'd quite like to replace it.

I'll try and rescue the dinner plate first though
