I'm here ... I'm probably not the best person to ask about pagans, there are many on MN who are far more eloquent on paganism than I am and who follow that path far more closely! There are at least a couple of witches and several pagans/heathens and so on who post here and they are probably far more able to tell you about why they follow the path they do, and what it's all about.
For me it's all about the power of the earth and the power of nature, and the fact that if we were more in tune with it, we would be far kinder to our planet and the people on it than we are. In the past people were closer to nature than we are now, and could tune in to the power of the earth, the tides, the seasons and so on far better than we can now.
For some people, paganism is a religion; it's their faith and they will worship or pray to something - not the God of the Bible, but the goddess, the spirit, whatever. I call myself "pagan" as a bit of a blanket term; some people are more specific in what they label themselves, as there are some aspects of paganism which are more organised and more like a religion than others. Some pagans (or followers of such paths) believe in gods and goddesses, but they're usually embodied in the spirit of nature and the landscape - the goddess is often the earth or the sky.
Very often there is only one real "law" to follow ... "harm none". If we all stuck to that one, we wouldn't need any other commandments!
Doesn't make much sense really, does it!
