Hi, just wondered if anyone else was studying with the OU. I've just signed up for my 2nd course (after a gap of 6 years!) and have chosen A103 Introduction to Humanities. Love to know which course you're doing/have done and how you managed!

I am working towards a psychology degree am about to finsish child development and will start social psychology in January.

I started with the other Humanities course DD100 and then went on to do the Exploring psycholgy course.

i keep going as I have a specific career path in mind and need to acheive certain grades to reach that goal. I also have a fantstaic partner who helps a lot with dd and around the house so I can fit studying in and who doesn't kick up to much of a fuss when I ask him to do the hours drive to hand deliver yet another essay I am doing at the last minute.

I've done A103 or an older version of it.

Have just signed up after a similar gap. Doing a level three Shakespeare course.

I have just finished ED840! And hopefully have got my masters. Found it hard going but generally enjoyed the work.

Good luck!

Well done Pootlepod! Congratulations!!!!!!!

I am!! Just registered (yesterday according to my desktop) for SK277 (human biology) starting in Nov and DSE212 (Psychology) starting in Jan, but starting Coventry Uni in two weeks too, and STILL haven't decided which to stay with (though it is most likely gonna be OU).

OU is very addictive and you never get out, lol.

Done DD100, K202 and U205 so far before changing track and aiming for Psychology degree.

Would love to do A103, and some of the 10 pointers look fantastic, so will probably be squeezing a few of them in.

Well done Pootlepod!!

HI
I've done A220, A221, AA319 (and residential school), A427, A173, AA303. Enjoyed most of it but very hard work. Am taking a bit of a break at the mo, skint and too much else going on. Will definately go back to it though.
Good luck!!!

Hi

I did A103 last year, if you wnat any help just ask.

I'm about to start two 10 pointers to take me up to January, when I start on Art History.

Well done Pootlepod,
I did ED840 last year. Bloody hard work it was too. I've had to postpone this years course until next year as my ds was having lots of problems but hopefully in 18 months time I'll have my masters too.

pootlepod · 15/09/2005 13:20

Thanks all. I know what you mean about becoming addicted- I don't think I have the stamina to carry onto the doctorate but quite enjoy the studying experience and have been eyeing up the environmental coures (total change of direction!)
Amynnixmum I found ED840 loads harder than my other two courses, couldn't pinpoint if the subject was different or the fact that I was studying with a toddler. What course are you going to do next?

Kelly1978 · 15/09/2005 13:24

I did a103 and w2100 last year, jsut completed dd100 and have the exam to do for W201 this year. A103 was very enjoyable. I can't say I find it addictive, but I'm getting closer to my goal.
Well done PP! Wht is it like doing a masters with the OU? Was the course as planned out as the undergrad courses are? I'm debatign whether to do one after my degree.

pootlepod · 15/09/2005 13:29

I didn't do my first degree witht the OU can't can't say what the jump is like. It is very flexible- I took a year out when dd was born and moved at the beginning of one module. I also like the fact that I have done 3 very different modules- very suited to my interests at work; but there also seems to be the capacity to focus on areas too. It was also cheaper than other alternatives and I could spread the payments out. At any point if I wanted to stop, I would have got a certificate/diploma so I just took it a step at a time.

Once I had the first module, I really understood what the modules are like, e.g. pacing out work, what to include in essays. I suspect that if you have done undergraduate courses you will get that much earlier.

MarsLady · 15/09/2005 13:34

Well if the addiction doesn't subside good luck with the PHD.

spacedonkey · 15/09/2005 13:40

I've signed up for Intro to Social Sciences and Beginners' Spanish to start this October - really looking forward to it!

amynnixmum · 15/09/2005 15:17

I didn't do my first degree with the OU either.
ED840 was my second course with the OU and I had little ones for both. My first course was no where near as much hard work or as stressful as ED840.

I think that in ED840 its the work load rather than the subject matter as there is a huge amount to do in a relatively short amount of time. All the people taking the course with me felt that the work should have been spread more evenly over the course.

My next course is SD805 Issues in Brain and Behaviour. I have all the course work already as i only cancelled 2 days before the course was due to start in feb. I'm going to start doing some reading next week so that by next feb I'll be really ready.

Wow - didn't know there'd be quite so many of us! Well done everyone who's passed - I've had to give up 2 courses due to lack of time, but am determined I'm going to get through this one. Thanks for your offer of help lillibet - might just take you up on that! Good luck one and all x
