i had a conversation with my dd the other night - shes 12 and going to town occasionally on her own and stopping at her firends houses - and i was trying to explain that when i was a kid i had a very strong - what i could only describe as spidey sense. i could sense in the air if something didn't feel quite right - there didnt have to be anything wrong - i just got a feeling and made my excuses and came home.

she said she did feel this once at one of her friends houses but she ignored it becuase she wanted to keep playing !

does anyone know what i mean?

Yes, I know what you mean! My theory is that everyone has a spidey sense but they rarely notice it. Last time I had it was on the tube - I got off and changed carriages at the next station. DP says he can smell trouble too.

Lacrimosa · 14/09/2005 13:41

I think lots of people try blocking their sences I think its great that you talk to your dd about it!

jampots · 14/09/2005 13:43

yes i think i know what you mean but I am naturally cynical and paranoid anyway. For instance tomorrow waterfalls dh is coming to collect my sofas ()and I am now thinking "what if waterfalls is really a man etc etc etc" - i guess the same as when i went to my first MN meet up.

Nemo1977 · 14/09/2005 13:45

I know what u mean like a intuition something is wrong. Last time I had it I had a car accident 20mins later...completley not my fault and i couldnt have changed my path.

Tortington · 14/09/2005 13:50

rather than a premonitio thing - cos i dont really mean that - did you get it as a kid when you went to other peoples houses?

i just want her to recognise that she has one and if it tells her to scarper - she must scarper. have fear of icky uncles ro granddads or older brothers at other peoples houses. and unfottunatley cannot do a depth interview with family beore she goes to stay

so just need her to recognise that if she get a spidey tingle she must come home.

I get that feeling, not as much now as when I was little but I avoided a lot of trouble (including a beating that would have been quite nasty) with my "spidey sense." That is one way of naming it custardo, I always just put it down to intuition.

Skribble · 14/09/2005 21:48

I get feelings sometimes, I was walking once with headphones on and I felt a presense behind me i looked down and saw a shadow of someonebehind me, I instinctivly turned round and puched him full on the face. He was maybe just walking faster and about to pass me, I will never know but I just kept walking head up, but shaking like a leaf.

stacijc · 14/09/2005 21:59

when i used to breastfeed i called the feeling of the let down spidey sense

but yes i do have the intuiton thingy.

hunkermunker · 14/09/2005 22:01

Skribble, you just punched a stranger in the street?!

Skribble · 14/09/2005 22:09

I did he was about 6" from my back. I was about 14 at the time and had just had all the womans self defence stuf drummed into me.

CaptainCavemansMummy · 14/09/2005 22:41

It's bizarre isn't it? About 6 months after I passed my driving test I was asking my mum what I should do if I was in a car accident (assuming that all parties were not injured). 2 hours later, some twat drove into me, (he was driving the wrong way down a one way street), and tried to make me admit it was my fault! (I was 17, he was about 45). Thank goodness for Spidey sense

oooooh, reminds me of this Readers Digest book about 'supernatural' stuff I read once. There was a true story of an american motorcycle policeman who came across another motorcyclist badly injured. He'd hit a tree and severed part of his leg, including an artery. The officer applied a tourniquet, saved his life and his limb. About 7 years later, to the day, the officer was in an accident on his bike. Hit exactly the same tree, severed his leg including an artery. Another motorcyclist pulled up to help, applied tourniquet and got help. Only the same flipping guy he'd saved 7 years earlier!!!! Kid you not, it's a true stroy!!!

CaptainCavemansMummy · 14/09/2005 23:02

make that story, not stroy

Heathcliffscathy · 14/09/2005 23:04

i know exactly what you mean and totally have a spidey sense...my dad used to say 'keep you antennae up and if it feels wrong come straight home or call us to get you' and that is what i'll say to ds.

obviously my spidey sense means that i won't be at the meet up for long
