Irish Mums, what's good in Dunnes for boys

All the kids around here wear George at Asda, apparently in the winter it can be a nighmare at the end of toddler group because all the warm coats are identical. This weekend we're visiting my parents in Dublin so I'm going to do winter shopping for ds at Dunnes (or as it's know in my family "Doon-ez Upper Class Booteeq" ). So what should I be looking out for? DS is 15 months.

Just go in there and enjoy bran! The quality is pretty good and the prices are unbeatable (considering the quality). Most of my kid's clothes come from Le Doon-ez Booteeq. I buy their clothes on my frequent trips home to NI. My ds2 is now wearing Dunnes jeans I bought for ds1! I love their stuff!

There is a Dunnes in Leeds and I go whenever we visit my in-laws. Boys jeans are good in there, so are t-shirts. And last year I got ds1 and ds2 really lovely padded bodywarmers for £6 each. The stuff is not bad quality - and sooo cheap.

Dunnes clothes are great, and pretty good value too. I'd say their entire range for toddlers is good. I haven't had a browse for a while though...it's very hard to browse when the kids are with you.

If I was you, I would go to Penneys as well. Same merchandise as Primark but none of the nastiness,ie there are shop assistants, clothes not all over the floor. I love their baby and toddler stuff, and when they discontinue lines, they practically give the stuff away. I got t-shirts for ds's for 50c each.

we went into penneys in Newbridge - was v impressed and also Dunnes - excellent value

skerriesmum · 13/09/2005 23:32

Generally it's good stuff. All ds's pyjamas are from Dunnes. Not sure about this year's stock for winter though, haven't been in awhile. Enjoy!

bran · 14/09/2005 12:40

OK, thanks everyone, I'll go wild. I just wondered as I have memories of shopping there as a teenager (a very long time ago ) when it could sometimes be variable quality.

All the ds's are clad head-to-toe in Dunnes stuff at the moment. Just one thing about Penneys, WASH the stuff well before letting them wear it. A friend of mine came out in a very nasty rash after she wore something as soon as she bought it. Apparently some of the clothes are sprayed with moth-repellant where they're made and some people are very allergic to the stuff.

Monstersmum · 14/09/2005 13:14

LOVE Dunnes and Pennys! Always manage to get stuff there for DS (now 4). You can't go wrong as it's such good value!

chipmonkey · 14/09/2005 13:19

My SIL has 4 kids and is always raving about Penneys and Dunnes. When she had a birthday party for her 2 year old, her SIL, ( no relation to me!) threw a fiver on the table and said, "There, get her something from Penneys or Dunnes!" in very sneery tone.

chipmonkey · 14/09/2005 13:19

Southsider!

bran · 14/09/2005 13:46

And what's wrong with being a Southsider? [raised eyebrow emoticon] (I can't believe I will still rise to that after being abroad for 15 years )

Northside women waer fake fur but have real orgasms.
Southside women wear real fur but have fake orgasms!

bran · 14/09/2005 13:59

And how can you tell when a Northsider has an orgasm? She drops her chips.

jampots · 14/09/2005 14:10

whats southsider/northsider thing?

tarantula · 14/09/2005 14:18

Its the Dublin equivilent of the English n/s divide or taxi driver in London not going south of the river.

s/siders = think theyre posh, loadsa mooney, originally boggers or PA and the odd jackeen done well
n/sders = proper jackeen, salt of the earth, scallies, no money etc.

Not that I actually know tho as Im just a culchie

bran · 14/09/2005 14:18

Jampots, it's similar to the North/South divide in England, only much wittier.

bran, in my version she drops her kebab!!!

bran · 14/09/2005 14:43

Well, I'm going to be a typical soft Southsider and scarper in case the Northsider starts to get physical.

I mean, I must go to get ds who's about to wake up from his nap.
