Darkness is the absence of light... errr... that's about all I can think.

Kelly1978 · 12/09/2005 17:39

how old is he?

sparklymieow · 12/09/2005 17:40

he has put about shadows, esplises, and how plants, animals and humans need light to live. But its hard, he is only 7 and even I am struggling with this one......

Night is when the sun is all the way round the other side of the earth (or, more accurately, the earth has turned our side away from the sun). Moonlight is reflected sunlight.

How about explainaing how the Poles have 24 hour day and night because of how they tilt towards the sun?

Twiglett · 12/09/2005 17:42

how about what provides light

talk about the sun moving round the earth .. when we have day / night

what happens when rainclouds form over the sun

what about the moon having a dark side and why

is it warmer when its light or colder

are there different shades of dark

Kelly1978 · 12/09/2005 17:42

there is a website here but it might be too basic.

lucy5 · 12/09/2005 17:43

Theres a good game and quiz on www.bbc.co.uk/schools sorry I cant do links.

Twiglett · 12/09/2005 17:48

also could think about how much light there is during the day seasonally .. ie summer days are longer but as winter comes the days get shorter and night comes earlier .. why does that happen?

(sorry do you want the answers or the questions to ask him to point him in the right direction?)

It's full of interesting stuff..a seven year old would need some help to get something from it but it does have lots for all ages.

Including adults!
