Ive not been on a retreat, but would LOVE LOVE it. I will be watching this thread with interest. A friend of the family goes on yoga retreats in parts of europe. What type of things are you interested in ; meditation, yoga, hiking ?

Yes several times but a long time ago when I was a student. Not had the time for such luxuries now regretably.

Worth Abbey in Sussex is supposed to be good (was featured on TV recently) and how about Ireland? There is a place or two there.

I had been to several (actually I was part of a team that organised them for a church). It was a lovely experience and definitively had a great impact on my life, (for the better no doubt) mind you, I was around 18 at the time.

Some of the people I met during them continue to be great friends even when I only get to see them every couple of years if I'm lucky

Oh, the retreats I went on were religious ones. I am not sure about other types. They were some of the highlights of my life, after dh and kids of course.

Actually, I have been to some interesting place in Canada, which is not exactly a retreat unless you consider yourself to be a creative person (it involved lots of painting and development of creative ideas, yoga, art therapy exercises and lots of contact with nature including kayaking, climbing a glacier, a volcano, or a mountain on your own). Wonderful experience as well.

Well, it's not as if you spend the day praying , nobody will go I suppose!. What I liked (apart of the very spiritual experience ) is that people tend to feel very welcome which brings the best of most persons. You can make long lasting friendships in the space of few hours or a couple of days, because you get to know yourself and the others around you faster than you would do in day to day conversations.

I must admit, Im a real yoga novice and woyhkd find being on a trip with mostly everyone bending over backwards with not a grimace in sight rather daunting.

This looked intrigueing heartspring a large country house in Wales.

YEAHHHH, Ive even started looking at the tarrifs now! The only thing is Id feel a bit weird going completely alone. It seems quite sweet though.

If that one doesn't work out I can find out about Buddhisty ones (my sister goes, I don't).

Also have aunt who is Catholic nun but doubt that would be appropriate.

Sorry to be dim - but what is a retreat? A holiday on your own, with painting/yoga? Or whatever else you fancy? How is it different to just going off on your own?

... I'll be in Spain but I believe I could do any other time after that week (provided is not a Monday or Tuesday). Before I get more convinced I'm off to check how far am I from the place.
