hi, was in my local co-op supermarket yesterday, as i was pushing the trolley with 1 year old dd in the seat of it ( no straps ) out of the exit door. i have to try turn the trolley right out of the door as the car park is off to the right and the exit door comes onto the pavement beside the road. hope that makes sense. anyway whilst turning to right out of exit door, one of the front wheels got stuck in a hole in the pavement and the trolley nearly toppled right over. if it wasnt for a man coming out behind me and helping me catch trolley, trolley and dd would ahve ended up on the ground and i hate to imagine what would have happened to dd. i was in so much shock and got such a fright for dd, i didnt go back into the shop to say anything. i would have turned the air blue and with dd with me i didnt think is was acceptable for her to hear me giving the manager an ear full.

now i need to know if it is the supermarkets responsibility to ensure that entry and exits are clear and the pavement is fine with no holes, what should i do before a wee one does end up on the ground with a head injury

thanks

call manager ASAP and scream at him/her that unless you see some action in next 24 hours, you are going to local press... they would hate the publicity and do something about it... if they have any sense... they do owe you a duty of care...

I agree, you have to say something or like you say it might be worse for the next child/frail elderly person. Luckily the kind man behind you helped out. I would go down in person to speak to the manager so they know how serious you are. I don't suppose you got any details of the man who saw what was happening? He could have been a witness if you have but I guess you probably was just so shocked (as most of us would have been)

The pavement outside is not their responsibility (unless it's their private property rather than the public highway) so complain to your council about that part.
