Burghley Road children's community centre (N8) at risk of closure - use it or lose it!

Before I moved out of London, I used to take DS to a playgroup at Burghley Road Under-5s Community Centre, near Turnpike Lane / Wood Green, which we both loved.

I rang them recently to arrange hiring the venue for Ds'a second birthday and they mentioned that they're not doing brilliantly financially at the moment.

I then spoke to a friend who also used to to there a lot and she says that it's just that not so many people are using it as they simply don't know it's there.

The idea of Burghley Rd closing makes me really Sad
The main problem IMO is that they just don't market it - this is a community led resource, not a profit making venture, and they're focused on running the place rather than marketing it! My mate and I are going to see what we can do to help with getting the word out, but in the meantime I thought start by letting you lot know about it.

It's volunteer-led and I loved the friendly, relaxed atmosphere. It's got two rooms with loads of toys etc (DS loved the ball pit) and a great little playground outside. There's a kitchen, and you can just help yourself to tea / coffee - as long as you offer everyone else one too!

There used to be a big group of us who went there all the time. It's a great little place, I'm very fond of it. It's open from about 10 till 3ish so you can just turn up (and leave at any time, which was great for me as it took the pressure off about getting there at a certain time and meant I could fit it in around DS's day. We'd always try to get there before 11 though so that we could get our names down for lunch. It used to cost £4 for entry and lunch for both me and DS (you don't have to have lunch if you don't want it, so it's only something like £1 entry if you don't have lunch).

All my lot have moved on though as the little ones are older and at nursery / school now, so we're not there any more. My mate tells me that as numbers are down they could be at risk of closure - if they don't get enough money in to meet running costs they're be in serious trouble.

It really is a case of use it or lose it!
