Question about living in London

I have an Australian friend who is a teacher and is looking at coming to England to work sometime next year.
She'll be arranging work through an agency in Australia but she has asked me "Which areas of London to avoid" I take it she means in terms of Accomodation.

I'm in Scotland and I don't know the areas of London very well.

Could anyone suggest nice areas where she could live? bearing in mind that she's a teacher and will have a budget, although I don't know how much her budget will be.

thanks for your help

That is a big question! It depends on what she can afford and also what she is into. W. London is more expensive but also has more nicities like posh-o shops and access to parks. I am sure that you could find many people who could fight their corner about their area of London. I live in the East End (near Whitechapel) and like it (mostly) and we can afford it, but many people would probably tell you to avoid the East End. Personally I would avoid Brixton, (with all appologies to ardent Brixton-ites).
Sorry, this isn't terribly helpful. Also depends on where she will be working. Will it be supply, or f/t contract? Does she know where?

Avoid Edmonton!

But there are good and bad places in every area. The cost of the rent should be a bit of a giveaway i wouldve thought.

London is B I G and alot will depend on where she will be working. It isn't feasible to work in South London if she lives in North London for example although living in East London and working in West London isn't so complicated, public transport-wise. IMO.

I live in South East London/Kent borders. Happy to expand on my knowledge of the area if that's where your friend is thinking of. She really needs to pick north, south, east or west to get better advice about areas.
