of ciggie smoke that is.

It is a leather 'look' jacket, obviously been worn in the pub, and it was very cheap...
but I wouldn't have bought it if it had said 'smells of smoke'on description.

So, if I complain to seller, and try and get my money back and send the jacket back, who pays postage?

depends on how they described condition. if they said it was good cond then they should pay as it wasnt true. they probably dont know it smells if they are smokers.

Just checked the advert..
it says 'new with tags' !!!!
It most definately isn't.

Even if it did say worn I wouldn't have expected it to smell though.

If they smoke, anything that's been in their house will smell. Doesn't necessarily mean they wore it, just that they unwrapped it. Smokers are amazingly tolerant of the smell, if they're even aware of it

Some people list items 'from a smoke free home'. If the seller had done this, then they clearly lied. But if they didn't say anything about smoking then I think you would have to pay P+P to return it.

If you like the jacket, couldn't you spray fabreeze or something on it to get rid of the smell?

unicorn · 07/09/2005 14:24

Don't think febreeze would undo the damage..

It is really smelly, actually to the extent that it is making the room that it is in smell too... is that usual?

I guess if smokers aren't bothered about the smell I could sell it on (ebay again!).. but would have to advertise it as having been exposed to smoke.

how about dry cleaners? I don't take items there myself so don't know if they could do it. Seems a shame that you have to pay out more money even though the seller wasn't very open about the desciption. Have you tried contacting them?

Prettybird · 07/09/2005 14:34

My FIL smokes and anything that has been stitting in their house for any time at all smells - even new stuff (such as presents).

sweetkitty · 07/09/2005 14:38

Same here MIL often buys DD clothes and she washes them for me first as well but I have to rewash them as they stink.

I used to have a leather jacket that I wore to pubs etc a lot, hang it out on the washing line for a day or two it'll take the smell away.

dropinthe · 07/09/2005 14:40

If it has been described as new with tags then you have every right to your money back if it has onvioulsy been worn-contact seller first to resolve before leaving negative feedback.

unicorn · 07/09/2005 19:00

have messaged the seller, about a refund/return... not heard anything yet..

so tonights MN conumdrum is..

If I did sell it again on e-bay, would you ( smokers in particular) buy something that said ' garment has been exposed to a smoke filled environment' (or can anyone think of a better phrase?!)

misdee · 07/09/2005 19:07
