Question about maximum bid from an eBay virgin

First of all, hey I'm a virgin again, it's been a very long time since I've been one.

I've put a bid on something on eBay and I didn't quite understand the system so I put what I wanted my bid to be and I didn't intend that bid to be my maximum. If I click on place bid and type in my actual maximum will it increase the current bid (I mean will I end up bidding against myself)?

Thank you.

No - it won't make you bid against yourself (provided you use the same id etc).

not sure.... but is it for a pushchair ?

marthamoo · 06/09/2005 20:39

I don't think so (she says helpfully). I think if you put in your new maximum bid the current bid will stay the same until someone bids against you - then you bid will automatically go up (unless you reach your maximum).

Wait til a big ebayer comes along though - I only have 67 feedbacks (so not an ebay virgin but not an old slapper either )

i have bid against my self beofre using the same id. if you get outbid then ebay will email you and you can increase it. or you could try sniping, i did my 1st snipe last night

Bran, enter your maximum bid. If someone bids against you it will automatically raise your bid, until you are outbid, or until you win.

Make sure you've checked the p+p, and take that into account before bidding, it isn't negociable, and some sellers will try and recoup some of their losses by asking for ridiculous p+p.

SoupDragon · 06/09/2005 20:44

I think I've bid against myself before in those exact circumstances...

bran · 06/09/2005 20:46

Thank you, as it happens someone bid above my interim maximum, but I put my new maximum in in the normal way.

Hoxtonchick, what on earth makes you think it's a pushchair? Well, ok, it is a pushchair, but I don't have a problem, I could give up pushchairs anytime I want to.

By the way, anyone who's intersted in my P&T debacle, can you believe this seller ? The rrp is only £99. She does have another one that is a much more sensible starting price, I'm watching it to see what it finally sells for.
