Yesterday when I got to DD1's classroom I found that DD1 had escape from the classroom and was wandering around near DS' old classroom. I only knew she had left because another child said she had gone. She is 5 yr old. Anyway I said to the teacher today that she had escaped and she just said 'what a shame!!!!!' I have aasked her to keep an eye on her at the end of the day because she doesn't understand danger. She has cerebral palsy and learning delays, you think the teacher would know to keep a close eye on her....

Generally any 5 year old should be stopped wandering off!!

Stupid woman.

stitch · 06/09/2005 09:42

are you sure the teacher is aware of this. being the first day of school, not necessarily.

Lonelymum · 06/09/2005 09:42

Sounds like you need to make an appt and go in and make the situation crystal clear to that teacher!

Jimjams · 06/09/2005 09:42

That's dreadful? Does she have an LSA? I would be meeting with the head tbh- and pushing for funding for adequate supervision. If the teacher can't keep her safe then there needs to be someone there who can.

puff · 06/09/2005 09:43

Yes I would. Things like this can happen, but I'd expect reassurances that the staff will try to ensure it doesn't occur again.

Jimjams · 06/09/2005 09:43

stich- she must realise she has CP! surely?

puff · 06/09/2005 09:43

Also agree with Jimjams re going to see the Head.

SleepySuzy · 06/09/2005 09:43

Unbelievable!

Tortington · 06/09/2005 09:45

put it in writing to the head

sparklymieow · 06/09/2005 09:47

YEs she is aware that DD1 has CP, she was DS's teacher in yr1 and she knows that 2 of my children have CP. And all the teachers are aware that they have CP, even the dinner ladies.
I remember now why I hated this teacher when DS was in her class.........

sparklymieow · 06/09/2005 09:54

I was that she didn't say 'sorry' and reassure me that it wouldn't happen again.... she just said 'they weren't told to go!!!' She has the mental age of a just 4 year old, she doesn't understand!!!

SM is the gap going to get wider? I suppose in reception the teachers are used to looking out for all the children- as the children get older they need to remember to look out for your dd. If they can't remember it may be time to start the push for extra support so that its there in place when needed. Does your dd have a statement?

sparklymieow · 06/09/2005 10:01

No, the gap has stayed the same for a long time now. She was 2 years behind at nursery but its closing. She doesn't have a statement or any funding, the SENCo is going to try and get Ear marked pupil funding this term, so they can get a LSA. When she was in reception the teacher made DD1 sit with her at the end of the day till she knew I was there.

yes I would be fuming

Jimjams · 06/09/2005 10:12

I thikn have a meeting with the head- and stress you are concerned about her safety- put it in writing too. It will help the school as it will help them get the funding they need.
