Need to find a Veil and Tiara for my wedding - HELP!

Am getting married in July and am struggling with finding a veil and tiara. It's not that i can't find any, I'm just useless at knowing what will go best.

This is my dress . Haven't decided yet whether I am having my hair high or low but it is definitely going to be up. am not wearing my veil over my face but definitely want one, just whether to have 1, 2 or 3 layers.

Please help me as this should be the easy bit, I should know what i want but i don't!

My sister makes tiaras to order. I think she charges about £20 each for them. She lives in Shepperton, if that's any help.

wow, what a gorgeous dress. Not sure about viels - does the shop the dress comes from have any recommendations. Debenhams do some lovely tiaras that are not too pricey

Springchicken · 05/09/2005 10:08

Anorak, do you think your sister would be able to come up with something from a pciture of the dress?
This is the problem I have, I have seen some tiara's that i like but am rubbish at deciding whether they compliment my dress or if i should go for something different.

Compo - have seen a lovely one in Debenhams, and it was reasonably prices which is also a bonus

She has a very good eye for things like that, so I think she would be able to.

She has been making jewellery to match evening wear for years.

If you CAT me I will give you her email address so you can send her the pic and see what she says.

Springchicken · 05/09/2005 10:19

Great Anorak, Thanks. i'll CAT you now.

Still open to options if anyone here has a good eye for these things

I hunted high and low for a plain simple tiara. Eventually I found what I was looking for in a expensive bridal shop but it was in silver. When I asked she dissapeared for ages then re-appeared with it in gold.
She had spray painted it the b*tch, it all stared to come off. Luckily I had enough time to get decent sparay and re do it. What a check .

Sorry rant over. Country baskets is a trade place but has loads.
Clares accessories have a good budget range.
As for knowing what goes best if you can't decide get a trusted friend or sister to help.
A wee bit advice
Some veil ideas
Some help with lengths
More advise on styles look at tutorial section too.

Thanks Skribble! Can't believe that .
Will have a look at all of your links now

You need to try a few veils on I think - preferably with the dress if you can manage it. Did this witha friend last year and we knew as soon as she wore the "right" one.

SoupDragon · 05/09/2005 10:45

Ditto tiaras (although not so necessary with the dress) which will give you ideas of the shapes you like. What are the beads/sparklies on the dress?

SoupDragon · 05/09/2005 10:47

What's the back of the dress like? This may govern how long a veil you want and how many layers - ie will it be obscuring anything?

Springchicken · 05/09/2005 10:48

I tried some on with my dress soupy but that was when i was buying my dress, therefore, wasn't really paying too much attention to anything else. and obviously the people who work there no exactly what they are talking about.

They are just sooooo expensive from bridal shops. I was hoping I could find something from somewhere like Debenhams or somewhere to save a a few pennies.
Ho Hum, s'pose I shouldn't be bothered by saving a few pennies on such an important day

Dress is corset with a lace up back - the ribbon is quite thick.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 05/09/2005 10:52

Looking at the dress which looks light and airy, I'd go for only one or 2 layers - shouldn't obscure the lace up back too much. Does the dress have a train or sweep at all at the back?

SoupDragon · 05/09/2005 10:53

Know what you mean about the cost. What you do is try loads on, work out what shape and where you want the decoration etc and then find somewhere cheaper - are veils the sort of thing you can have made by a dressmaker?

Springchicken · 05/09/2005 10:53

Yep, it does have a train not massive though! also what sort of length, the ones i tried on in the shop were full length but not sure if a mid length would look better.

Here is the desription of my dress:
Celeste - One-piece organza over satin gown with corset back. Celeste features an asymmetrical waist and sweep train. Gown is embellished with Chenille flowers, metallic embroidery, Swarovski crystals, bugle beads and seed beads. Includes matching purse and stole. Colors available: Diamond White, Ivory, Soft Blush and Light Gold

This is the back . Not very clear but gives a rough idea

I had a dress with a "short sweep" and wore a veil that came to my waist - finished just above the decoration where the bodice met the skirt. You certainly wouldn't need a full on "cathedral length" one.

If you're not wearing it over your face, then you wouldn't need a "proper" veil - do they come as just (say) a length of appropriately sparkly organza attached to a comb?? Oh this brings it all flooding back - the dilemmas! The decisions!

Springchicken · 05/09/2005 10:59

That's what i thought, but my mum thinks i should get one with 2 tiers just in case i do decide to wear it over my face. She thinks I
should, I think i shouldn't.
I never realised it would be so hard

There is something nice about putting the veil over your face and then taking it back when you get up to your DH2B Hides your face from the "audience" too if you're emotional and nervous!!

Springchicken · 05/09/2005 11:05

You've been a great help Soupy! I am going to print this thread off and make this my next target. I am going to a Wedding Exhibition in a month or so, so hopefully I can have it done a dusted once i've seen what they have on offer there.

omg you have just made me cry damn you

That is my dress that I wore in July this year!

Im selling the tiara and veil I wore with Celeste if your interested?

Also, would it help to see some of my wedding photos to show you what my veil and tiara looked like with celeste?

Springchicken · 05/09/2005 11:28

Oh Pecka, I was hoping you would see this. i knew you wore Celeste and was hoping you could help me.

Yes yes yes yes, seeing pictures would definitely help and would definitely be interested in maybe buying your veil and tiara.

I actually have 2 tiaras. Bought both and couldnt decide!

www.photobox.co.uk/album/743353

Here are the photos, the first ones are planning pics and have a couple of the tiaras etc.

My tiara has randmonly placed diamontes on too for that extra little sparkle - not too much at all though.

Do you have your shoes?

Springchicken · 05/09/2005 15:33

Ooohh I love your tiara. Just right, not too tall but noticable enough.
What length was your veil?

Haven't got shoes yet, was thinking along the lines of fliflops. If i wear heels I will tower over DP. Was thinking something like this

OP posts:
peckarollover · 05/09/2005 15:41

they are lovely, i was almost going to go for flip flops but was worried about flip flopping down the aisle! I had really small heels too they were little kitten heels with pointy toes and the full toe part of the shoe was beaded with the same colours as tiara.

My veil was 72" - I was advised that length for Celeste by lots of people. You dont want it to short as it cuts out the back corset detail and too much longer you lose the lovely details on the bottom of celeste.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Do you have your underskirt?
