I can now hear some rumbles of thunder !

Polgara2 · 04/09/2005 21:26

They're here in Cheshire NOW!!! Its bucketing down, too much lightning for my liking - waiting for it to wake the girls .

Whizzz · 04/09/2005 21:26

PS: If you are in the middle of a huge thunderstorm - personally I would turn off & unplug my PC !

Whizzz · 04/09/2005 21:29

Yes - here's the rain now !

Polgara2 · 04/09/2005 21:30

Yes I was just thinking that when the last flash of lightning made me jump. Will come back later I think!!

NannyL · 04/09/2005 21:37

why turn off an unplug PC??

TBH im quiet surprised out internet hasnt cut out... it almost always does in thunder and has to be reset etc!

QueenOfQuotes · 04/09/2005 21:39

NannyL - because if you're on cable, and the main cable supply place gets hit/affected by a power surge (ie not your house but little box bit on the road somehwere where all the local cables run from) it can 'blow' your modem out.

We had that last year - massive storm. We had to wait nearly 2 week for a replacment as nearly everyone in the area had been affected!

thanks QoQ...
but as we are on broadband and it uses the NTL box thing in the sitting room (for cabel Tv as well) surely If that did happen, it wouldnt make any diff if my comp was on or not?

I dont know if thats a bit technical... im not trying to be awward (really), but i acnt see how my comp being on will affect the NTL box... if it breaks it breaks...

is that because its not a modem?

Me confused now!

QueenOfQuotes · 04/09/2005 21:45

lilibet · 04/09/2005 21:53

We have thunder and lightning in Wigan - very dramatic

Carla · 04/09/2005 22:00

Pruni, are you doing summer or winter uniform tomorrow, then?

Catbert · 04/09/2005 22:02

Galaxy - I'm just up the road in Hindhead, and it's PHENOMENAL! I just jumped out of my skin and had to check that nothing was on fire in the nearby surroundings, because I have never heard a clap of thunder so loud, I thought it could have hit my back garden!! A mental 15 mins of constant lightening and really loud thunder - but now it's quietened down. Perhaps it's fast moving.
