Waterproof and damp-proof Shed?

katymac · 04/09/2005 15:25

I need a shed in the garden and it needs to be both waterproof and damp-proof.

I am going to be storing Carseat/Buggies/Highchairs and toys (incl wooden jigsaws and maybe cloth toys) in it - for my childminding business.

Do I buy a metal shed, a plastic one and wooden one and dryline it?

I have already accepted it needs to be on wooden bearers maybe 4 by 4's - so it is off the ground

Help I need advise
TIA

we have a 'standard' but good quality wooden shed. It is pretty big, we store logs, tools, paint, mower, chainsaw, bikes and garden furniture in it. It is perfectly dry except if the roof felting comes loose - we have just had to refelt it but dh could manage to do it on his own quite happily.

oh btw ours is on a concrete slab that we poured, or you can use large concrete pavers instead for the base

We have a 7x5 wooden shed, with a lean-to roof, standing on wood bearers and it is perfectly dry - has fairly high walls on 2 sides mind you. We have bikes, some garden furniture and related stuff in there and it's all fine. We've had it about 10 years IIRC (probably don't - probably less!) and the roofing material is beginning to look a bit crumpled but nothing comes in.

You could keep all the toys inside those large plastic storage crates with lids. The highchairs etc should be OK with protection. (We have bikes hanging on hooks on the higher side, you could do that with folded highchairs to free up more floor space - lean-to more practical for storage though doesn't look as nice.)

Sorry, meanr highchairs etc OK without extra protection.

So general consensus is that a wooden shed is OK....Thanks all

Probably best to line hut with a second layer inc under roof perhaps a layer of insulation between. You might need some form of heating like the green house tubes just enough to keep the chill off and prevent damp being attracted. Make sure you keep an eye on the roof felt for cracks and rips. Plastic crates will keep mice off too.
