How do I clean a ceramic butler's sink?

Have one in new house - perfectly fine but slightly scratched on the base through wear. It is a bit stained looking though and I'd like it to be pristine and white. What should I use please?

I would have thought anything would be fine for ceramic. Bleach? One of those magic white stain removing blocks?

aloha · 04/09/2005 11:39

What are these magic blocks of which you speak?

Um... Spontex (and Lakeland!) make them - they are firm white sponges which magically rub away stains. Works wonders on my cruddy white plastic sink.

I have one and I fill it with a couple of inches of water and put a splash of bleach in and leave for an hour

SoupDragon · 04/09/2005 11:41

this is the Lakeland version.

SherlockLGJ · 04/09/2005 11:42

Don't use bleach

It will remove what ever covering there is left on it and every thing will stain it.

I know, I bought a house with one.

Red wine stains black

and as for tea and coffee.

Ah, the blessed Land of Lake, with its answer for everything
Enid, that sounds doable right now. Thanks all.

Well maybe a splash of bleach, but Mrs Bodgitandscarper had wrecked mine by the time I got to it.

Enid · 04/09/2005 11:43

ah maybe thats why mine stains so easily

although the bleach treatment works a treat I must say

SherlockLGJ · 04/09/2005 11:44

Yes, the bleach is very satisfying.

I am addicted to putting bleach down the loos atm also.

I think its because I have switched to E cloths I need a chemical fix somewhere in my house

soapbox · 04/09/2005 12:14

Put a good scoop of biological washing powder in, add as hot water as you can get from the tap and leave to soak overnight.

Mine is very very old and this comes up nicely every time!

teeavee · 04/09/2005 12:28

would bicarbonate of soda work, I wonder?

eemie · 04/09/2005 12:35

meggymo where do you get white vinegar? Can't find it. Husband ordered white wine vinegar by mistake and now have gallons of that instead

sterilising tablets? they're very good for coffee stains on cups (fill with water, throw a tablet in, leave overnight)

SherlockLGJ · 04/09/2005 19:20

philippat

I use steradent to clean the toilets.

princesspeahead · 04/09/2005 19:43

put in an inch or so of hot water, chuck in a dishwashing tablet and leave overnight.
super-clean in the morning

philippat · 04/09/2005 20:05
