Still not at one with vomit (who is) but I can deal with my kids. DH is a different matter I have to go upstairs and put music on he makes so much noise, he did his back in once he puts so much effort in. I just shout down sympatheticaly.

Hattie05 · 02/09/2005 22:48

Oh i remember seeing this prob before in discovery health, pretty good iirc.

Hattie05 · 02/09/2005 22:52

I always wonder how long lasting the therapy is?

Because i can get myself into postive mode for a while, but then one little incident (or several in todays case) can bring me right back down.

Now i can't walk barefooted around the house for fear of stepping on an insect. Every thing i pick up such as cup, towel in the bathroom, magazine, etc i have to inspect for spiders attached on the underside before using. As i enter a room i'm looking all around for spiders. And i am really dreading going to bed tonight, because once that light goes out i feel things crawling all over me and dp has to check for me.
This will go on for a few weeks now, then will calm down until the next 'incident'.

The only good spider is a dead one IMO ... but I have said that before.
I am widely travelled but I won't ever go to South America .... the thought of ever seeing a proper big hairy tarantula makes me rigid with fright.
I am going to Sydney in October and already am worried about seeing any nasty spiders ... although I have been told countless times by people who have been to Australia that they hardly ever seen them ...

starshaker · 03/09/2005 08:35

Strangely enough I have been drawn to this post too Aimsmum and Lonelymum

Skribble I too have the vomit phobia and reading your posts feel like such an inspiration to me!!!!

I am in quite a difficult relationship and the main reason I stay is because I couldn't cope on my own because in case the kids are ill.

You say that you coped when you were nannying until the Mum came home!!! That really touched me because I cope when I am on my own, I really don't know how but I do, but if DP is around I go into a massive panic. I really do believe that when its your children you would do it, look after them I mean because your first instinct is to protect them and that would override the fear.

I sometimes wish I just had the willpower and strength to do this alone. But my fear is worst at night!!!

Thanks anyway you have given me a little hope.

I've got, not exactly a phobia, but something that really upsets me and makes me shudder. It's that gesture that people make for emphasis when talking when they stab their index finger into the palm of their hands. Actually getting quite edgy just typing that. And if anyone touches my palm with their finger eek. Makes my skin crawl. Can do holding hands as no fingers involved on the palm.

But good reason for it - at infant school someone put their pencil through my palm (accidentally of course - there's a reason why teachers say never run with scissors. Same principle.) The thing is it never used to bother me that much but has been getting worse and worse over the years. And it's so odd - I don't like telling people because they might think it's funny to make the gesture. I try to just look away. But have to warn people on the very rare occasions when I have a manicure.

God, I wish I'd ignored this thread. My skin's crawling at the very thought.

So you guys don't want to hear about the 2 spiders I have had to release from our kitchen sink and bath today then? They both had bodies the size of wasps and long legs which mad them look even bigger. Haven't seen anything as spectacular in years.

compo · 03/09/2005 09:58

lonelymum are you trying to give me a coronary?

compo · 03/09/2005 09:59

dh has to do all spider and wasp removal from the house

ABow · 03/09/2005 10:02

Lanismum - pmsl at dummy fairy!

Scared of being on the surface of large expanses of open water. But I scuba dive and I'm fine once I'm underwater. I'm just a weidro I suppose!

Lonelymum · 03/09/2005 10:06

Sorry. It is just that my own phobia is so crippling that I can't help but feel proud that I have not succumbed to others!

teeavee · 03/09/2005 10:17

one thing that makes me want to throw up is removing hairs from the plughole. It'snot a fear exactly, but I would much rather handle a turd than a blob of sodden hairs.eeeeeurrrghhhh, feeling sick writing this even
