How do I get it out? Think it's a poly cotton shirt. Am I right in thinking I should put it in very hot water with bio detergent?

fairy liquid

waterfalls · 02/09/2005 18:03

I would have thought initially washing up liquid, then wash as normal.

And if it does'nt come out in the wash, iron with brown paper.

OK, this is going to sound nuts but it works ... Swarfega. Rub some Swarfega into the oil stain, then stick it in the wash with bio washing powder.

cadbury · 02/09/2005 18:27

Do you keep swarfega about your person normally WWB? I don't think we have any at all! Thanks for your imput though

Its soaking in very warm washing up liquid soapy water. Am about to rinse it out and will put it through a bio warm wash tonight.

You've found my guilty secret, cadbury ...

It's dh that has it in the garage and I assumed that most men keep such things lying around for tinkering (as they do) ... please tell me that it's not just mine and that he's not some sort of pervert?

fairydust · 02/09/2005 18:39

put talc on it to absorb the oil then wash

cadbury · 02/09/2005 18:40

No, he isn't. I'm fairly sure your man is entirely normal. It's mine that isn't - he doesn't have a practical, diy, mend and fix things bone in his body. Every shelf I have slopes, the words I dread hearing from him are "well, I've fixed it for now" - this usually means that there is a 2 pence piece wedged startegically somewhere in the hope that it will hold it until I get so fed up of it being broken again that I call my dad over to "look at it". So dad duly turns up with his tool box to "look at it", we laugh at dh's attempts to "fix-it" and then dad does. Dad keeps swarfega in his garage

I wish my dh didn't have a practical, mend-and-fix bone in his body either ... he loves his DIY but it takes him aaaaaaaages to get around to doing anything, and then it takes him aaaaaaages to finish the job. I wish he'd pension off his jar of Swarfega and admit that sometimes it's better to get the professionals in or buy something ready made!

At least if the warm soapy water doesn't work you know a man with a jar of Swarfega that will do the trick
