Built a tower with blocks (think they are supposed to do 2 or 3)
Asked her where the light was...stuff like that

fisil · 01/09/2005 20:34

build a tower, use a pencil, do a puzzle, name some things in a book, put things in a box. Ds1 liked the praise, and so did everything twice. The best bit was when she said "what's that?" while pointing to a hat. Ds1 didn't answer. In the pause she turned to us and said "you'll find that soon he might start to string two or even three words together." She then turned back to him and pointed at the hat again and asked "do you put it on your feet?" To which he said "no, it's a hat. You put it on your head. Shoes go on your feet or wellies if you want to go splash splash splash."

We don't do 2 year development checks in our area. However, I do make contact with parents when their children are around 18-30 months just to check that they are happy all is well with development. I then follow up all the children whose parents are concerned about anything and I usually see them at home. Much better to see them in their own familiar environment.
My son is now 2.5 and hasn't had a 2 year check - a shame as I'd quite like to show him off.

The pre-school checks are my favourite. By this time they've learned a healthy distrust of anything (and more importantly - anyone) medical. Asking them to step on my scales can often be met with outright indignant refusal. and the offer of seeing how tall they are....well! I love em.

thanks fisil and lol at the whole sentence.

Aragon this is what confuses me why do some people do it and others dont?

Don't know Nemo - just don't know. Mad though I agree. It's the same in midwifery - one trust does one thing and another does something completely different.

i mean personally i am not worried about ds development, he was slow to talk but then on the other hand he was walking at 8.5mth and physically developed so was and is able to get what he wants without having to ask..lol

My ds2 had his 2yr check on Tuesday (he is 2.5) & was asked to build a tower (although he was happier knocking the bricks down!), brush a dolls hair (not keen on this 1 either!), name objects in a book, draw with a crayon & feed the doll with a spoon!
She asked questions about his speech etc, weighed him & measured him and asked if I had any concerns.
That was it really!
