Tried to install AOL yesterday...almost worked apart from I couldn't actually load up any web pages. So I am now back to using internet explorer, but some sites do't load at all. Mumsnet is fine, but hotmail isn't. But on mumsnet when I click on "log in" nothing happens - I think another window should open?

I have uninstalled AOL now, and tried to go on the website to cancel my registration, butwhen I try to sign in....nothing happens

Prior to about 5ish years ago I agreed with you. Somewhat niche, somewhat odd.

However, they rebuilt their operating system (from 'Mac Classic' to 'Mac OS X') and IMHO it is easily the most secure, usable and elegant OS you can get today.

Also maybe just search 'mac' in title as there have been several 'OMG I love my mac' type convos too.

If you need pure MHz clock speed, or are a hardcore gamer, you would probably be better off with a PC (for the same money), otherwise... they are a total dream to use in daily life (forget all that antivirus antispyware crap) and the boxes / laptops look the biz.

PS - What do you do with your PC - just Net surfing / e-mailing, the odd letter / spreadsheet / photos to friends etc. or anything more taxing / specialised ?

That is basically what we use it for, and kids games (not hi-tech stuff). Might be a bit expensive though...

Certain games will only run on a PC, and that is a reason to use a PC, and certainly a new PC will run Windows XP which is MUCH better than Win 95 / 98 etc....

The Mac Mini starts at £359 just for the processor box (reuse or buy mouse / keyboard / screen). Not bad I reckon.

It comes with software to manage all your photos, make DVDs etc. too., and handles multimedia stuff REALLY REALLY nicely.

I've been using a Powerbook laptop for 2 years and am still very impressed by OS X and happy with the hardware. I've got my folks onto Macs as supporting their PCs was just tooo depressing. . I've got a PC upstairs I haven't turned on for a year.

Wallce, if you're interested, there is a picture of my hairy toe on my MN site... oh, and a few more pictures of Camille since we got her home (same link as below)

So.... any questions re: entering nirvana, LOL ?
