What's your child's funniest habit?

Had to ask this after ds - who is nine months - has started reaching behind his neck to undo the velcro on his bib and then chucking it on the floor to tell me he's had enough!
Freaky but funny!

She has started sucking her hair - not funny but bloody scarey - I keep thinking of cats and hairballs so am going to get her hair chopped in to a smart short bob at the weekend (she has curls and a double crown so is probably for the best!!)

The funniest thing that she actually does is put her finger up to her mouth and go HHHHHHHHMMMMMMM before she ever answers a question - she is my little mini me!!

Bozza · 31/07/2003 09:06

I thought that was normal bluecow.

DS's habit is to poke himself in his belly button. He does it all the time to the point where it, and the surrounding area, has got sore and I'm having to put E45 cream on.

bluecow · 31/07/2003 09:13

Bozza - that makes me LOL!

Bozza my ds does that with his bellybutton and everyone elses too for that matter. At 20 months he also has a fascination with boobs, my friend came round the other day and she has quite a large bust and he went over to to her and said 'mmmmmmmm boobies'

cant think if dd has any at the mo

Bozza · 31/07/2003 09:22

Fio2 it really winds DH up. I wasn't really bothered until I realised he'd made it sore. He's quite into his nipples too but that involves pulling his T-shirt up further.

fio2 · 31/07/2003 09:24

mines into nipples too!! especially his sisters! How old is your ds?

Boe · 31/07/2003 10:07

fio2 - this is so funny - DD thinks is hilarious to pull up shirt whilst waking around sainsbury's - my shirt - not hers and say boobs!!!!

She also has a facination that DP has hariy nipples and wouldsit next to him and twirl the hairs around her finger!!!

Do you tghink it was because they were breastfed (mind you my boobs were not hairy when I did!!!!)

Jimjams · 31/07/2003 11:27

Mines into nipples as well. Ds1 was and now its ds2's turn- definitely a result of bfeeding!

The funniest habits come from ds2 becuase he copies everything his autistic elder brother does. So when he was about a year old he used to rub toy cars backwards and forwards across his tummy, then he went through a phase of sniffing books, now he does a funny scream and throws his head into the couch. We don't really notice when ds1 does it, but it looks hilarious when ds2 starts.

debster · 31/07/2003 11:30

Ds (4.5) wraps his blankie around his finger and then likes to rub his finger back and forth in the space. I think it's more of a comfort thing than a habit but it still looks odd.

oliveoil · 31/07/2003 11:31

My dd makes a really deep gruff growling noise when she is concentrating on something - anyone remember the Exocist films? Very bizarre on a 9 month old

cazzybabs · 31/07/2003 11:44

My dd (nearly 15 months)also likes playing with her belly button until its sore (and (not funny and quite worrying) touching her bits when she is having her nappy changed).

Also when she has done something she knows she shouldn't - like throwing toys to the floor or touching the wine rack she puts her hand over her mouth and says uh oh! and when she has done something she really knows she shouldn't she walks away shaking her head and saying n n n n!

Northerner · 31/07/2003 12:01

Crazybabs - that's really funny. my ds (16 months) is at the uh oh stage when he drops/throws things) But what makes me really laugh is when I ask him something and his answer is no, he screeches nnnnnnnnnnn whilst shaking his head repeatedly! Just to make sure I get the message I think

My 19month old puts her hand to her mouth and gasps 'huh, ooohhh' when she a) hears a police car b) sees the cat c) the phone rings d) she hears her dad's key in the door etc etc!
She has also just started poking out her tounge at people. She tips her head back and really points this sharp little tounge at you! She cracks up laughing with her face in her hands every time she does it. When people in supermarkets think it's really funny and laugh at ther she's never going to stop. When I wag my finger at her and say 'no' she just wags her finger back with a massive grin!
PS She's also into belly buttons, mine & DP nipples, his willy, and loves grabbing her bits and kicking legs in air as soon as her nappy is off!

Oakmaiden · 31/07/2003 22:13

My ds doesn't do this anymore (he is 5 now!) but when he was REALLY small if he ever saw a toy screwdriver (or a real one) he would pull up his top and try to undo his belly button with it.

Mostly because I (cruel mother that I am) once told him that if you unscrewed your belly button your bottom would fall off....

It was SO funny!

Paula71 · 31/07/2003 22:26

Ds twins aged 18-months love grabbing their nose or your nose and squeezing, you have to go "honk honk" if male or "beep beep" if female! They think it is a great game.

The belly-button thing must be a baby thing! Ds twin youngest loves to lift his jumper and press his belly-button then wiggle his bum.

They also love dancing (for that read bouncing up and down while swinging their arms) to the music channels on TV!

Hours of entertainment guaranteed!

misdee · 31/07/2003 22:40

my dd1 (3) tells me things are 'somewhere' when i ask where she has put things. i usually reply with 'somewhere doesnt help me', so now she has started saying this as well. very frustrating.

dd2 crawls very fast across the floor, growling away with her head down till she bumps into something (usually the doorframe if we dont catch her in time). she was also sorting blocks earlier, and decided that the purple square was the right shape to try and fit into my eye. ouch!!!

Frogling · 31/07/2003 22:45

My 14 month old dd likes to put her face as close to yours as possible, then sticks a finger up each nostril and snorts at you.
Her other favourite thing is to pull my top up and push and pull my now sticky-out bellybutton - am heavily pregnant, and she obviously thinks that it should make a noise or something!
