Want to see your old school pals?

There was a thread on interesting websites, but can I find it, no!

Anyway www.friendsreunited.co.uk is a website where you register to meet up with your lovely old school chums via email. A word of warning though, you can't just go for a nose around, you have to register first(free). If you want to have everyone's email addresses you need to pay £5 for a years subscription.

There are about 10 listed on my school's site for my leaving year 1983, my friend F and I are having a whale of a time recalling everyone's nicknames etc!

Thanks for reminding me about this Rhiannon. I've been meaning to give it a go. Must see if they do colleges and universities, too - then the fun would really begin. Thinking of several ex-boyfriends I've lost contact with....

Ems · 09/08/2001 16:37

It's a great site, found my ex!!

Tigermoth · 09/08/2001 17:08

I've got to look, now!

Tigermoth · 09/08/2001 17:21

Hmm. Just got through. Can't put a face to any of the names. No ex-boyfriends as yet, but if the site grows fast, you never know what it will throw up. Did, however, see the name of an old friend I invited to my 8th Birthday party.

Jodee · 09/08/2001 18:56

Rhiannon, this site is so popular since you posted the email address, it appears to have crashed! Before it did, I managed to find the name of an old boyfriend, and had a serious hot flush!

Dorisday · 09/08/2001 20:33

I went to a really awful all girls school, with some very obnoxious girlies there. It was fascinating to discover what they're up to - they all appear to be in the media or marketing or their own businesses. None have kids and they all seem to live in London(the school was in Leeds)-feel exceedingly dull 'just' being a boring old houswife! That's the only problem with reuniting-It's all a bit too competitive for me. Had a riveting day at the 'local' park today, though!!

Emsiewill · 09/08/2001 21:43

Is it a local park for local people, Dorisday?

Emsiewill · 09/08/2001 22:38

Fab, fab, fab I found my best friend from school, who've I've been half-heartedly been trying to trace for 9 years. Can't wait to get in touch with her. Only problem is, I can't seem to get them to take my money so I can have her e-mail address. Never mind, will try again tomorrow!
Have to say, I really shouldn't be up at this time of night, now I'm going to have a friendsreunited addiction to add to my mumsnet addiction! (As well as a phone bill from hell) Time to investigate internet on my TV via the cable, I think!

Our whole office was on it one afternoon, and there were screams, "Ohmygods" and laughs coming from everyone. I felt emotionally drained afterwards. I too wanted to start a discussion on this topic, and I must admit I've been neglecting mumsnet a bit since I discovered it. I found a hairdresser and a dustman from my primary school, and a direcor of a merchant bank from my (state) grammar school. I finally got up the courage to mail my ex-boyfriend this morning when I came into work (he's in Hong Kong, so I figured it was safe enough) and he replied immediately, asking me to tell him all. So I sent my last ten years life history and am waiting for a reply.....!

Alibubbles · 10/08/2001 18:18

Hey Bron, That's wicked, I never thought of checking the boy's school. as I too, went to an all girls, onto it right now!!!

Dorisday · 11/08/2001 08:20

Bron-Thankyou you make my life feel worthwhile-Of course the job of a mother is a worthy one! None of them have experienced the true meaning of life -if they haven't held their child up in public and sniffed its bottom! (did anyone read that article about Madonna, never having changed a a nappy in her life?)-not sure if it's true though.

Doris No Tail - see the thread 'Celebrities are they real' (Other Subjects) for views on Madge and her parenting skills.

Look, we'll have no talk about solids here!

Dorisday · 16/08/2001 21:45

ok we're losing the plot guys this is meant to be about old school pals ! i think we are getting a little bit anal- so come on , how about revealing your nicknames from school-mine was 'friendly' as my eyebrows used to 'meet' in the middle-crap isn't it-kids are soooooo inventive! don't s'pose my current nickname is much better !

Mel · 13/09/2001 18:44

I registered my Dad on friendsreunited and bless him, he was the oldest person who had registered! SouthPark Juniors in Walthamstow, I think! Perhaps, not too many 70 year olds use the net to do that sort of thing!

Mel · 13/09/2001 18:50

Just thought, have any of you organised reunions?
A friend of mine is in the process of doing it for her year group. It would be such a hoot wouldn't it? Who would you most like to see? The old enemies? The guy you had a crush on for years? Remember what it was like to really look forward to school because HE was going to be there? God, must be getting old!!!!!

Emmagee · 13/09/2001 21:53

AAAGH people and memories I thought I had left behind, and now I find myself at ten to 11 still sitting at the *@@@£"!" computer, i was supposed to have orangised the 'craft' activity for tomorrow's playgroup, done the washing up and had an early night by now!!!

Rhiannon · 14/09/2001 09:35

Yesterday I met a friend from school that lives 3 miles away. I have not seen her for 18 years! I'm seeing her again next week.

mel, one of the guys from my class is organising a reunion, and has posted a load of photos from the last day of school - the memories are coming flooding back! Yes, I would love to see a couple of guys I had big crushes on, one goes back to junior school. I would go weak at the knees if I saw him in the corridor! We've recently exchanged emails thru Friendsreunited and he admitted he was besotted with me in junior school but too shy to do anything about it, and I was a timid little thing back then too so nothing ever came of it - goes without saying I am very happy with dh and definitely married the right one, but I secretly can't wait to see him!

Bugsy · 18/09/2001 08:56

It is all a bit spooky. A bunch of us who are London based are meeting up at the OXO tower for drinks in a couple of weeks and I have very mixed feelings about it. I sort of feel, if you were meant to keep in touch then you would have done. However, I suppose a few drinks and a chat about school days should be fun.
