Right, I need help with this. I'm not good at choosing presents at the best of times, but i'm really stumped with this one (or two).

I want to get a present for my eldest nephew who'll be 20 in December and is going to university next month. He's going to be staying in halls for the 1st year and obviously doesn't have much space. So, want to get something for him. Any ideas?

The other present is for my fil who'll be 80 next month. He enjoys the garden, football, reading and classical music. But I need some ides for something different.

how much were you thinking of spending?

DelGirl · 29/08/2005 15:18

not a huge amount tbh nailpolish

Prob up to £20 for nephew and £30 for fil. Taking fil out for lunch as well.

for your nephew - when i bought stuff for my brother going to uni it was pots and pans, a basic cookbook, a toastie machine etc (boring though) you could also get him a freeview box, although the halls can be not very secure. asda have reasonably priced ones

for your fil, we recently got dh's dad a weather station - it has a little box with an antennae that he sits on his garden seat, and a little receiver inside the lounge that tell him everything about the weather and the predictions of the day to come

should say that it's not a birthday present for nephew it's just something for him/his room iyswim

Instructions on how to cook basic food. He will have them all queing at his door to find out how to roast a Chicken, roast potatoes. That was the best gift I had when I went to uni. A number of my fellow halls of residents students came and asked when they found out i could cook a chicken and do roast potatoes. Otherwise a book voucher towards his expensive books.

Fil how about finding a craft place where you could make or decorate an interesting present, otherwise go to past-times.com you can find an inexpensive present their that he might appreciate

DelGirl · 29/08/2005 15:28

great ideas thanks. I had thought of the johnnies myself NP but I think he would be and so would I . My sis has already bought him a cookbook, especially for uni students so that's out. phonecards is a good one, not sure if he's got payg but i'll find out.

Where did you get the weatherstation?

I might try and get to a pastimes mumbee, thanks and I guess he will be needing some books. Not sure how many, he's doing a Music degree, but they're bound to come in handy.
