The Hulk, would you take a nearly 6 yo?

I've promised nearly 6 yo ds a cinema outing today but he wants to see The Hulk, which is 12A. This means 12 advisory doesn't it? So 3 questions:
Would you take a fairly grown up nearly 6 yo?
Will they let me in - is the cert discretionary?
Is it good/terrible/indifferent?

The other options are Sinbad or Piglet movies which he's not mad keen on. TIA

I saw a trailor for The Hulk the other day and it said at the bottom of the screen 'moderate violence and scary moments throughout' or at least something like that.
I think a clip had some quite scary 'creatures' in it too, can't remember totally though.

Wickedwaterwitch TBH I dont think the cinema will allow him to see the film if it is a 12 censor. They are pretty strict on that sort of thing.Phone the cinema beforehand to see whether the journey will be wasted, if he is not keen on seeing something else.

I'm not sure what to do, just looked up 12a and it seems to mean 12 accompanied, not advisory, so it appears they will let us in as long as I go. But you're right, I should check first and will ring. I don't want to go though if it's going to be too violent/inappropriate.

let us know what they say WWW

I have seen this film and thought it was AWFUL!! I don't think it is a childrens film as it is a long film and about an hour of nothing happens before the Hulk appears! Sorry..just had to say! Worse film I have seen for a long time!

sis · 29/07/2003 10:23

WWW, depends on the 6yo in question - I know a five year who has watched Alien but I know that ds would have SERIOUS nightmares if we took him to see anything even mildly scary (eg Disney's Snow White!). Haven't seen The Hulk and thankfully, with a 'very sensitive' ds, I won't have to see any of that type of film for years!

WideWebWitch · 29/07/2003 11:16

Talked to ex dh and we reckoned it wouldn't scare him but we also decided that the word of mouth is that it's a crap film, so there's a reason not to waste 2 hours driving and £15 or whatever it'll be to see it. Ds admitted he mainly wants the sweets that go with a cinema trip anyway ! so we're going to buy Pick n mix and hire a dvd from the video shop instead. We'll wait for the video for this one I think. Warner Cinemas said they would let me into a 12A with a 5 yo though since the 12A cert means under 12s have to be accompanied. It's entirely the adult's call as to whether a film is suitable apparently.

Don't forget the popcorn for the home cinema!

bubbly · 29/07/2003 11:35

What about Sinbad? Venue mag said it was bearable. Piglet Movie (not very tough!)

I love doing home movies on wet days. We sell tickets on the sitting room door and bags of popcorn. I love it when we all huddle up ont e sofa together.
Have fun

www, why not wait till Friday and see the new Spy Kids movie?

winnie1 · 29/07/2003 12:30

www, bit late but I think the reason the Hulk has been slated is the psychology involved which would be over a six year olds head. The Hulk doesn't appear for quite some time because of this. I also think there are one or two moments of violence (particularly in ref. to aggressive dogs and the flash backs to his mother being killed) that it would be inappropriate for a six year old to sit through. Beyond this the film is far fetched in the style of marvel comics heros. Personally I didn't think it deserved the slating it has had but I didn't have great expectations anyway (and I certainly wasn't up for a violence-fest).

the hulk is a film which would suit people who enjoy non mainstream films - you know foreign films, arty films etc.

its certainly not a childs film which is why i dont understand the promotion behind it aimed at children.

i thought it was the biggest pile of poo i had seen for ages an so did my kids

lou33 · 29/07/2003 13:12

Saw 2 crap films on video recently, Reign of Fire and Daredevil. Both because the kids wanted to see them, so we watched first to make sure they were suitable. Watched Fargo last night again on tv, what a brilliant film.

RockingRosebud · 05/08/2003 08:55

A friend took her son and about 10 others for a 6th birthday recently. Apparently for about 40 minutes nothinng happens as it's all in the lab (this is what I've been told). The boys were very restless and bored and the film hadn't even got going.

What about The new Rugrats one. My DS age 8 is keen to see that.

wellikins · 10/08/2003 17:11

Would recommed the rugrats go wild with the wild thornberries. Dp took DD age 6 recently and they both thought it was good. Especially as it has smelly vision cards,(only a couple worked but great gimmick, plus they have to follow the film to know when to scratch and sniff)
