It is my 40th B'day and our 10th Wedding anniversary next year. For my Dh b'day we had to cancel aa little boys party due to Dc down with chicken pox and work commitment for Dh.

For mine No plans so far need of suggestions. For our 10 th Wedding ann we have a number of ideas incluing a Scrap book to celebrate. We have been compiling a list of unforgetable events of the last 10 years which have impacted our lives in some way.

I had a huge party in a local hall, with about 80 friends and family there. I ended the night stood on a chair, with my bra on my head singing "you've lost that loving feeling" to 2 girls from work, while my mum swept up the hall. It actually wasn't very different to my 21st! Grow old disgracefully that's my motto.

My friend's husband took her and their 2 children to Lapland for 4 days to see Father Christmas.

Went bowling and for a meal with another couple. My excuse is that I was 7 months pregnant, and in no mood to party.

For my 41st, my dh and friends threw me a big surprise party because I had missed out the previous year.

And for my 39th, I invited 4 friends over for a 'couple of glasses of wine and nibbles'. My dh counted 12 empty wine bottles when he came home.

Surprise weekend for two in New York week before, and country house hotel on the actual day for 6 adults and 3 children. I felt VERY spoilt! DH missed out a bit cos dd was only 8 weeks old at the time, so made up for it with NY trip.

CountessDracula · 27/08/2005 17:54

any more

I had a big party in a marquee in the garden with sit down meal and then disco afterwards.

There was a children's bash running alongside but separately - they were in the house with entertainer and then bouncy castle in the courtyard garden. This meant the adults could have fun (I hired a couple of nannies to look after the children) but those with children were still able to come as some people travelled quite a distance and babysitting would have been problematic for them.

It was a fantastic day - we started at 6pm so that those with young children could attend for a while if they wanted to and then dinner started at 8pm then went on until the early hours of the morning.

We had a characterturist(sp) who was very good and guests left with a momento of the evening - although not always a flattering one

Had very good waiting staff which I can recommend to you if you are interested.

We are just back from celebrating DH's 40th (he's not a party animal) so we went to Mauritius for 3 weeks and celebrated there, which was very special too!

My family organised a surprise party for me in a restaurant in Brighton which was, amazingly, kept from me and was a genuine surprise! They travelled from all over to be there and my SIL had a special cake made.

I pulled the best surprise on them though when I refused the champagne my father was pouring as I was forced to announce that I was 10 wks pg!!

For my dh I invited all his family round for a fantastic buffet lunch and gallons of champagne - it went down really well as dh's b/day is New Years Day! dd (see above) was a couple of weeks off being a year old then and so dh was v. happy to celebarte turning 40 with his (only) child on his knee!
