SORRY TO MNHQ

Dear all at MNHQ, i would like to say how sorry i am to hear this morning that some of your members have actually seen fit to grass you up with regard to the advert.
I consider this to be a complete overeaction and pure nastiness imho.Especially as you have already made it clear you are revising your policies on advertising.
I don't and never will have a problem with the advert, despite being a breastfeeder. I assume we are all intelligent enough to realise that ad's on websites are pure revenue making and to choose our own method of feeding our babies.
I don't know what to say except i am sorry
Hattie x

Sad

Hattie, I think you'll find that no-one has "grassed up" Mumsnet to anyone. Those people who have reported the advertisement have reported Milupa, not Mumsnet.

The advert (nb advert not MN) was reported before the MN statement about their policy. It's not a matter of people's intelligence, it's a matter of ethics and skirting the law.

mumtosomeone · 26/08/2005 09:21

No law has been broken though!

edam · 26/08/2005 09:24

Have you read the threads, Hattie? Your penultimate statement suggests you may have missed the key reason for objecting to this ad - it's contravening the advertising ban for first-stage formula. People have reported Milupa as they are entitled to do. MN HQ said they didn't take the ad without a lot of thought. They should have realised Milupa were trying to get round the law. They are all intelligent women and they decided to take a risk. Very sad but official complaints were inevitable, I'm afraid.

Hattie05 · 26/08/2005 12:06

WWB people have admitted to reporting mumsnet. Mumsnet have been reported.

Edam i have read the other posts, i do understand the reasons for so much fuss. My opinion is as in my first post.

I don't have a problem with people reporting Milupa, but mumsnet shouldn't need to be dragged through the mill for it.

People have admitted to reporting MILUPA. No-one has admitted to reporting Mumsnet, as far as I have seen. Mumsnet has only been dragged through the mill on the boards.

caligula · 26/08/2005 12:14

Hattie I asked this on another thread and no-one has responded.

Do you believe that it is OK that Milupa runs a helpline which purports to advise women on breastfeeding, but in reality sabotages their efforts? Do you find this acceptable?

If you don't, what would you do about it? Would you ignore it?

moondog · 26/08/2005 12:15

Hattie.....

hahahahahaahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahaahahaahhahahahahahahahahahaha

Enid · 26/08/2005 12:17

creep

caligula · 26/08/2005 12:29

Well?

Is anyone going to tell me that it doesn't matter that Milupa is running a helpline which is pretending to help women breastfeed, while in reality it is sabotaging their efforts?

moondog · 26/08/2005 12:30

Rhetorical question methinks caligula!

Hattie05 · 26/08/2005 12:34

Caligula, the key word in your question is Milupa.

I'm not sure how many people would even think to ring a formula company for advice on breastfeeding. Midwives, NCT can offer this advice.

I won't go as far as to say i think it is ok that they are running this helpline, but it does not surprise me and what would you really expect their helpline to tell you anything other than to use their own brand of formula?????

You could trawl through every company in this way. Face facts companies are out to make money, not to be kind and loving to their customers, despite that being what they want you to believe.

Personally i have better things to do with my time than to worry about this.

I am just shocked at people reporting Mumsnet over it and wanted Mumsnet to know that not everyone feels so strongly abou this.

And btw, Moondog, what is funny?

moondog · 26/08/2005 12:35

You,Hattie m'dear!

Enid · 26/08/2005 12:35

brown nose

moondog · 26/08/2005 12:37

I'm sure the MN team will sleep well tonight knowing that Hattie at least was not a heinous traitor.
Maybe they'll make you milk monitor tomorrow eh?

caligula · 26/08/2005 12:37

So if you're not sure it's acceptable, Hattie, wtf would you do about it?

Nothing?

ghosty · 26/08/2005 12:40

Erm, sorry to be a gate crasher, but I have missed all this ... can't be bothered to trawl through the threads ... what's happened? Who has reported MN for what? What advert? Que?

moondog · 26/08/2005 12:41

Go to site stuff and look at thread titles. You'll catch on!

moondog · 26/08/2005 12:42

And noone has 'reported' MN to anyone for anything as it's not actually primary school.

caligula · 26/08/2005 12:46

Ghosty you'll need about 6 hours.

But the jist of it is that Milupa are running an ad which skirts the boundaries of legality plus a helpline which sabotages mothers who bf, while pretending to help them.

Many people believe that although that may be bad, we should all just face facts and accept it and not do anything about it.

Others believe that we can and should do something about it.

ghosty · 26/08/2005 12:54

Right, thanks, will try to read up if I can ... am off to bed now though ...
All sounds very serious ...

Hattie05 · 26/08/2005 17:39

Fuck off Moondog, how dare you take the piss just because you don't agree?

Caligula i would do sweet fa about it because as i said what else would you expect from a company selling formula?
