Odd-sized pupils

My 9 month old ds has odd-sized eyeballs - the left one is noticeably larger than the right. My GP says its quite common but has referred us to a consultant to make sure all is OK. It was only after I left the surgery that I realised I hadn't asked what was causing it, if it's so common. As I've no doubt got a lengthy wait before the hospital appointment comes through, has anyone else got any experience or advice about this?

Oops, should have said he has odd-sized pupils - his eyeballs are both the same size.

My youngest 2 children have different sized pupils. They were checked out at the eye clinic and there was no abnormality found. There are all sorts of shapes to eyes. It was thought mine all had squints but it was the epicanthic folds which caused that appearance, but their eyes were fine. Is it eyeballs or pupils that look different?

Ha - posts crossed. Don't know what causes the 2 different sizes - they are just made that way. They are now ages 9yrs and 12yrs and have perfect vision. Their eyes are tested yearly as all children's should be - but not eveyone is aware of that.

I read the strap for this thread and immediately had images of strange shaped school children...

Mears, I thought that too - and thought I was the only one, so thanks. My dh has those kinds of eyelids and ds has inherited them - I kept pestering the eye clinic! I was worried for ages, but now I don't notice it any more

Sorry, loss of modem cable forced me off-line for a few days there. Thanks, Mears, for making me feel like my child is normal after all, and have had an appointment through for the eye clinic for next week, which surely must be an all-time NHS record.

are his pupils always like this? my pupils go like this but are not permenantly like it. my optician noticed it and tested how they reacted to the light but they were fine so told me not to worry about it but he would keep an 'eye' on it!!!!!!!
