I've made a baby toy, how do I safety test it before selling?

I made a toy for my ds who loved it, so I made another for a friends baby, who also loved it.

I thought I might make a few and see if I can sell them but I'm worried about selling something that then turns out not to be safe.

Does anyone know if there is some kind of safety standard for toys produced in the UK?

I know there used to be Toy safety regulations. The best people to ask would be the consumer protection people at your local authority.

The other thing to do, would be to ask them who the appointed public analyst is for your area. You can then submit a toy to them for analysis - paint, attachment of things like eyes etc. There is a standard fee, but it didn't use to be too much. Also look up 'analytical and consulting chemists' in the yellow pages and give one or more a call and ask them if they can test toys for safety and how much they charge.

Hope that helps.
