"A wedding awakes the five-year old in every girl, and have you ever tried to reason with a five-year-old?"

Good point!! PMSL!!

What amazed me was the average cost of a wedding... £17 grand or something? WTF? (speaking as someone who got married 15 years ago for a couple of grand)

Went to a brill one last saturday, vows at 4, Sausages and drinks then do started at 7. The bride my mate plays base guitar in a band, so she got up on stage with her band in her wedding frock, strapped her guitar on and blasted out pink floyd and Jimmy Henricks till 8.30 when her hubby got up with his band and played, with several different drummers then my dh got up and played guitar. He used to be in a band with my friend.
Fab fab fab day from begining to end.
Her ds who is 20 months was rolling around the floor and rolled himself up in her train during the nuptuals which i was VERY pleased about as my ds aged 2 was screaming blue murder at the back for "brum"...a little car i believe?!

No, bit of a BBQ in the evening, was dead good.
At mine, i just didnt tell any one till a week before the event.
Cost me about £600 all in all.
Only thing was they wouldnt let me wear my jeans so had to hire a (plain) frock, and bought new shoes.

We did too! we went to the pub after and met our friends there for a drink at night.
My dad payed for a meal for afew of our friends and family, about 12 people all together including us.
The best of it was though, DH's cousin is a baker and made me a chocolate fudge wedding cake with cadburies flake in it...was gutted when i had to share it with people, that was THE point of not telling any one about the wedding, we could have halved that bugger and eaten it all to our selves...he ho!
No one was horrified, considering we only told people the week before, the reg office was packed and we didnt ask for any pressies but ended up with about £600 in gift vouchers (B&Q, M&S etc) and about £200 in money! we were delighted as we had just bought our house and were skint so that money payed for us to do our first room up.

My sister had the best( and cheapest ) wedding.
Registery office in the afternoon then everyone up to the mountains to a hunting lodge. They exchanged vows beside a huge bonfire in the garden and everyone drank elderflower champagne(made by her best friend).

Meal for 80 cooked by me (pumpkin soup served from the pumpkin shells, braised lamb shanks, braised red cabbage and colcannon (traditional Irish halloween (it was halloween) potato dish), apples stuffed with mincemeat and almond paste for dessert). Dancing followed with music courtesy of brother who used to be a dj. Bride looked stunning in an amazing blue/grey satin fitted dress coat over a blue dress designed by my other sister (who is a designer). The people who owned the lodge were really lovely and very happy to have the bar and all the rooms full so only charged them a couple of hundred quid for the whole thing.

It was a concerted family effort to get our hippy-ish laid back, pennyless sister married to the man she loved. It was a fabulous day and just goes to show that you can have a fun and stylish and cheap wedding as long as you think outside the box!
