how to clean cement off floor tiles?

they seem to do it in a couple of hours on changing rooms. i just had a changing rooms experience i demolished a kitchen cupboard and found beautiful red tiles on the floor. took up the shabby lino to find more plastic tiles which have been sealed to the lovely red stone tiles using some black adhesive - if thats not hard enough to get up there is cement or concrete a thin layer which seems impossible to remove.

mumsnetters know everything in my experience so please help me as my husband and kids are fed up of scrubbing the floor with wire brushes and wallpaper scrapers and just want to put a carpet over it!

hi custardo, you might want to take yourself off to a specialist tile supplier. at our local one they have all manner of cleaning products to get rid of spilt tile adhesive and other stains. it's possible they might have something which would get rid of it for you.

The red tiles underneath are probably quarry tiles or paments. Unfortunately, you probably don't want to use too much in the way of chemical removers as they will destroy the tiles too. These people have all sorts of tile cleaners/protectors, good advice on what to use where (call them) and good prices... here

Good luck
