Galt do lovely wooden play kitchens complete with washing machines, sink, cooker and cupboards, they are very pricey though! DD is perfectly happy with the ELC sizzling kitchen (reduced to £35 at the moment) and even though it's in the playroom it still seems big enough to me!

DD has the Chicco Star Kitchen, but I like this as it is quite small so tidies away easily.

Is this the Little Tikes kitchen you are hankering after though?

Meant to add that it says out of stock but you could contact them to see when they might get some more in.

Just to add, Toys R Us do some good ranges of plastic play food, pots and pans, crockery sets which are quite reasonable too. DD is only 15mo but has the toddler Little Tikes kitchen (that has sound effects too) which she adores, but likes the accessories to really pretend at tea parties. Poor daddy has to regularly 'eat' plastic chips!

We have the Chicco one too, which I found a bit small but I guess it does have the advantage of not taking up too much space as pie says. It does have the cooking sounds & lights, but uses lots of batteries as they keep leaving it on and wandering off! Hope you find something good! (Oh and the pretend food is great!)

We nearly bought a very expensive wooden cooker from jojomama bebe for about £90 then luckily found a cheaper alternative at our local nursery. if your into diy you could buy an old bedside cabinet (usually a couple of pounds at recycling centre or junk shop) cut up 4 dials from a branch and 4 plates from a log, nail them firmly on the side and stick the plates on top and you have an instant cooker!

I did make a kitchen from a bedside cabinet! DH refused to let DS1 have one so I made it instead. Nailed tongue and groove panelling to the back, put cup hooks on that back board to hang the teacups and stuck 4 circles of holographic paper on as burners.

Ikea do wooden kitchen units for kids now. Am thinking of this for dd's 2nd b'day in Sept. Would anyone care to recommend wooden vs plastic?

DD started off with a wooden cooker when she was about 14m, similar to Ikea version, it was ok but she really hankered after one with sound effects etc. Have to say that my love for wooden toys is fading as DD plays hard and most of them now look very chipped, still look much nicer on the shelf though. If you've got the cash Letterbox have a fantastic wooden kitchen, complete with microwave for about £65.
