What do you do with your one and only in the holidays. Recently moved here and struggling to find things to occupy him as he hasnt any friends here.

Hi Tenalady !!!

So... tell me - How old is your DS and what are his passions in life?

My first thoughts are perhaps it would be fun to sign him up for a playscheme, library activity days, intensive sports lessons, some sort of outdoor pursuits thing, a band or orchestra or if he is older some sort of community work...

Is this the kind of thng you were thinking of?

Tenalady · 02/06/2010 00:35

He is 8 Tea. Outdoor pursuits and he is quite musical. I have been trawling the whats on in the area and it hasn't been very helpful. I dont believe Cambridge can be that dead. Maybe I am looking at the wrong pages, I trusted google as it usually works.

Ooooh - nice age.

Hmmm... we do really need someone who lives in Cambridge!

Meanwhile I have come across this...

www.holidayorchestra.co.uk/home.stm

www.nines.rowing.org.uk/

www.kelseykerridge.co.uk/index.php?pageid=4041

but have no idea of their quality/value for money seeing as I don't live in Cambridge... sorry!

There used to be loads of kids stuff going on in Cambridge in the holidays back when I lived there. Maybe ask in the tourist information - I know you're not a tourist, but I suspect they would have lists of what's on.

Takver · 02/06/2010 15:52

Another thought - you might have more luck posting in another topic. I know there are quite a few Cambridge residents on MN, there was a pretty active thread not so long back about primary schools in the city. Maybe in Primary Education as your dc is primary age?

The university museums usually have lots going on during the holidays. We've only ever gone to one-off sessions but if you check their websites you might find holiday courses and so on.

Hi Tenalady,

A good source of info for Cambridge is
www.cambridgegrapevine.co.uk/
Unfortunately this site is only up to date to the end of June as the owners are moving and looking to sell, but it should still be useful to you for regular events.
