Tea Room the Ninth: I love rock and roll, put another dime in the juke box baby

Welome to the ninth incarnation of the tea room. It's been a long and eventful road, from a tea room overlooking a cathedral garden to a beachside cafe, with a diversion via a yurt. Now - voila - we are in a music lounge. We cater for all tastes and, as this is a tea room of requirement, it manages simultaneously to be many things at once. For some, it is a 70s glam rock disco with a cool boho edge - glitter balls, smoke machine and much wearing of platform shoes and eyeliner. For others, a jazz bar where mellow music is played as cocktails are served. For still others, it's a concert performance of Spem In Allium. We still have a garden, with shady parasols for the summer, and a menagerie of pets. Our membership is international.

The tea room has few rules. Everyone is welcome. But anyone visiting with the sole intention of causing hurt or shouting abuse will be ejected by Mellors, the multi-talented gardener-handyman who (it turns out) is also a guitar wizard and rock god.

Please come in.

MadBad, not lemon verbena, lemon balm, aka Melissa officinalis or lemon mint.
One of the most expensive essential oils going, due to the extremely low yield. I think it takes 2kg of plant to produce 1 drop of oil, or something like that .

Excellent choice of music, btw.

catita - hope you all feel better soon and yes, get that biolive yoghurt in you all asap! My favourites are the Yeo Valley Fruity Favourites. Yum.

Daisy, I too was at the thought of mistlebaby in a tailored business shirt - I guessed you had got a bit confused!

We could follow MadBad's choice with this

thumbwitch · 18/06/2009 22:40

ooooh, look at that, you can't have italics in web links! didn't know that...

Anyone for a Moscow Mule?

daisy99divine · 18/06/2009 22:44

madbad I guess I can just say mea culpa but I doubt I would know what it means I guess I am just more smutty than is good for me

Glad I have given you all a good laugh today anyway, sounds like we need it!

catita I am eating Yeo Valley Yoghurts as an act of solidarity. Oh, and some Onken Wheatgerm

I take your Scissor Sisters, thumb and I raise you "it's raining men" by the weathergirls
(sorry I can't do that you tube stuff. on account of being 84 and the queen)

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 18/06/2009 22:48

Fantastic! And we might learn some new moves from this instructional video.

Daisy - I am 103, Commandant General of the Royal Marines and Holy Roman Emperor, but my valet showed me how to do youtube links.

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 18/06/2009 22:55

oh, I think we need the leopard skin leggings now - give this one a minute..

And then as the evening winds down, how about this one? Might need sunglasses to view it though but it seems to fit the ambience for the evening.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 18/06/2009 23:04

Excellent choices! Being 103 I remember Kenny Everett's inflatable leggings. How about this one to continue the mellow mood?

OP posts:
daisy99divine · 18/06/2009 23:50

oh yes I miss Kenny Everett!

MadBad - sine you are the Commandant of one of my armies I can simply command your valet to do the you tube links for me, can't !

mistlethrush · 19/06/2009 09:02

I miss KE too. I also appeared to have missed a very busy evening - I always seem to do that! Sorry, double booked (with tearoom as well, triple booked, but I'm afraid the tearoom had to take 3rd place last night) - local group meeting started 7.30 - I left that early to get to a new book club late.

Lemon balm - nice thing to do in the summer - jug of water, ice, several (washed) large sprigs of lemon balm, and, if you have them, borage flowers as they look nice. Very good for alfresco eating in particular.

Sorry my veg garden is causing . Its a lot smaller than an allotment though - I would probably opt for about double the space ideally in terms of veg production, but the sleepers to raise it are costly, and, in fact, the amount we've got takes up as much time as I can really spend on it. We do have lots of herbs in tubs near the back door too - I had picked some chive flowers from the veg garden and came back for some oregano - which is next to the thyme which was in flower. A bumble bee went from the thyme flowers onto the chives in my hand, then back to the thyme. I wonder what chive flower honey would taste like?

Based on your advice I had a quick look on ebay, and hope that dh has managed to snap up a Next linen shirt (pale blue) that would do just fine....

I was out miles away for a meeting and dropped in to a dress agency just in case they had anything that might be suitable - have come away with a Per Una dress - bit tight at the moment, but as I'm on a serious diet at the moment, I hope I shall be able to get into it fine by the wedding. Of course the underwear required for it will cost me more than the dress....

Dh is wearing a suit. At least that's easy!

daisy99divine · 19/06/2009 09:23

Mistle I feel no at your garden. I bask in reflected glory since I feel what is yours is mine and I know that even with 100 acres of garden and a legion of mellorses I would do nothing!

Glad the clothing for wedding is sorted. That's a weight off my mind

Now, heres for a little coffee of the metropolis. Doubtless toiled for by a team of women in India. But at least they are fair trade toilers. Nothing home grown about me!

daisy99divine · 19/06/2009 09:23

by the way, what is a plural of Mellors?

Mellorses sounds a bit too much like something Gollum would say!

thumbwitch · 19/06/2009 09:25

MT - interesting thought - herb honey, hey? Bet it would be interestingly piquant!

Hope you get your ebay purchase - I am one of those reaally evil nasty people who snipe at the end of an auction to make sure I get what I want (good job other bidders aren't able to give feedback, innit!) - but to be fair, I only buy something off ebay maybe once every 6m!

mistlethrush · 19/06/2009 09:35

I think Dh put in a bit with 30mins to go or something. He hasn't told me whether we were sucessful or not - although there had been no bids on it to date... Could always do a bit of an expidition to one of the nearby outlet centres - one of them has a Next discount so could look there.

Anyone with boys (or indeed girls, but its so easy to buy interesting girls clothes anywhere, probably don't need to mention) the Pumpkin Patch sale has just started - they actually do some clothes that are not grey or blue!!!!!

mistlethrush · 19/06/2009 12:35

Whooohoo made news round up and

thumbwitch · 19/06/2009 13:55

ok, am fick - I freely admit it - how? which bit? Should I have noticed?

mistlethrush · 19/06/2009 14:07

I get sent it weekly (Fridays) - but its available on the 'News' tab - Talk roundup.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 19/06/2009 15:37

Yay, Mistle! You're [even more] famous!

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 19/06/2009 16:20

At least its for something that I found to work miraculously well - haven't heard the neighbours music since. Perhaps they didn't realise that sound could travel beyond the property boundary over the fence or through the hedge...

daisy99divine · 19/06/2009 16:37

well done Mistle - did you charge them since you seem to be a semi-professional singer
you could always pelt them with wayward beans from your garden!

mistlethrush · 19/06/2009 16:46

I think that the funniest part was that there were some songs and things that I knew a bit but not well enough to join in (re words) - but then a Tchaikovsky waltz came on (big, orchestral, good tune) and it was that I joined in with

yes, I sing a lot, but don't change often!

Dh tells me (under interogation you understand, not offering up the information because I might want it of course) that we won the auction on the next shirt and that he also put a bid on another one of the 3 that I picked out for him. However, as yesterdays was something like £1.25 plus postage and he didn't go over £2 on the otherone, even if we end up wtih both it won't be the end of the earth (and we can then take an entire spare set of clothes with us so that ds can ruin one set and still be presentable )

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 19/06/2009 17:08

Hooray for ebay and MistleBloke's tactical bidding skills!

Tea and a Chelsea bun, anyone?

OP posts:
daisy99divine · 19/06/2009 17:15

yes please ¬ Chelsea buns always make me think of elephants though I don't suppose they like them!

Catitainahatita · 19/06/2009 18:45

Thanks fo the tip Mistle, I shall be eating said yoghurt for breakfast, dinner and tea tomorrow I think. Today I managed soup. I might run to a piece of toast later [let's not go over the top emoticon]

DS has had a banana, a yoghurt and some pear today plus his milk. Ye-hey! First solid food for 7 days. He's starting to act like himself again too. So things are looking up.

Hope you all have a good weekend. My mum has got plans [!] (I'm not sure what) if we are up to it tomorrow apparently. Sounds like fun

mistlethrush · 19/06/2009 21:04

Glad things are on the up Catita!

thumbwitch · 19/06/2009 21:59

Thanks fot the hint MT - I found your moment of fame - what a good idea!

Catita - glad things are starting to improve in the Hatita household and hope you are able to go along with your Mum's Plans withouth suffering any relapses.

Am feeling very glumpy tonight. But then period has just started so that might have something to do with it as well, although we gave up on the ttc thing last month cos too much else going on and too much stress, so it's not that, just hormonal probably. I don't normally "do" PMT as such, but have been known before to do peri-MT so I guess that might be it! And fed up as well.

At least DS went straight to sleep again though.
