Tea Room the Ninth: I love rock and roll, put another dime in the juke box baby

Welome to the ninth incarnation of the tea room. It's been a long and eventful road, from a tea room overlooking a cathedral garden to a beachside cafe, with a diversion via a yurt. Now - voila - we are in a music lounge. We cater for all tastes and, as this is a tea room of requirement, it manages simultaneously to be many things at once. For some, it is a 70s glam rock disco with a cool boho edge - glitter balls, smoke machine and much wearing of platform shoes and eyeliner. For others, a jazz bar where mellow music is played as cocktails are served. For still others, it's a concert performance of Spem In Allium. We still have a garden, with shady parasols for the summer, and a menagerie of pets. Our membership is international.

The tea room has few rules. Everyone is welcome. But anyone visiting with the sole intention of causing hurt or shouting abuse will be ejected by Mellors, the multi-talented gardener-handyman who (it turns out) is also a guitar wizard and rock god.

Please come in.

Sorry to drop in, tantalise and disappear again! Too much happening in RL.

Wedding was good. I fitted the dress ( which, when I first tried it on, was significantly too small) and a jacket went on top which I've not been in for a while - although could still lose a bit for that ideally...

Most of the people that were on the guest list that I'd heard of didn't turn up. NM (Bob the Builder) sent apologies and beer. However, I've been watching the programe about the painters that's on BBC2 at the mo and recognise some people from that that were at the wedding... Lots of fascinators - so you'd all feel at home!

DH has promised to have words with MiL for undermining me in front of MJ. SUch as saying that I worried too much when I pointed out that the packed of crisps that she'd bought and MJ insisted on having had 1 tenth the ADULT RDA of salt, and it wasn't as if he'd be having anything else with salt in during the day. Perhaps we should forget the bread and spread he had at breakfast, the bread and ham he had at lunch etc etc etc!!!

thumbwitch · 22/07/2009 00:31

man it annoys me when relatives undermine your food "rules"(guidelines/wishes) with your own DC - I am keeping miniThumb off wheat until he is old enough to tell me if it gives him any kind of tummy/bellyache, because I do not want to inflict the years of bowel problems that I had onto him.

This didn't stop MrThumb trying to feed him danish pastry yesterday, despite him fully knowing my reasons; nor my sis giving miniThumb some kind of savoury snack thing today while we were out without checking what it contained "because it was from Holland & Barrett so it must be ok" - thank goodness it was potato-based.

No doubt I am being very pfb over this but really, miniThumb has already demonstrated that he has my plaster allergy so he could quite easily have a wheat intolerance as well (or not - but I'd rather wait to find out)

daisy99divine · 22/07/2009 03:15

oh Mistle, I have taped the Pre-Raf bonking buster to watch later, so will imagine it part drama and part wedding!

JM am getting excited about the great meet

UniS oh, so annoying about the house and am worried that the sale may not go through if your buyers are being awkward? Hope they're just being foolish....

Am a little to find I am still awake and it is 3am I must abed!

love to you all
x

(sorry about the baby bird)

Catitainahatita · 22/07/2009 15:09

It's all very quiet in here today. All I can make out in the gloom is Mellors gently snoring on the sofa. He looks very peaceful, so I shall tiptoe away without waking him.

daisy99divine · 22/07/2009 17:05

and isn't it touching the way he is snuggled up with racing pig?

CMOTdibbler · 22/07/2009 17:07

Although I note RacingPig seems to be extracting threads from Mellors jacket for his nest.

mellors still snoring, what have they been doing to him over in teh HP lounge??? JM, care to elaborate?

What with work stress and house stress neither DH or I slept well last night. I hope it was just 1st time buyer foolishness. Off to look at another house to let on friday. bit out of the way and isolated unfortunately.

CMOTdibbler · 23/07/2009 08:50

Off to the great international tearoom meet work conference in California today. The flight is absolutely full, and I'm guessing, of small squeaky people. It's going to be hell.

Roll on Friday, and meeting JM

daisy99divine · 23/07/2009 09:03

oh CMOT - good luck on the flight!

on the one hand, small squirming people on the flight could be ghastly on the other, they won't be yours!
am thinking of you in your lovely cotton dress with shrug (see I even know what you wear now!) trotting off to meet JM and the delightful JMBaby

Hope Kittenito is doing ok and UniS don't worry about the house too much (yeah, right, that's helpful!) but here is some lovely fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee and fresh made bread - look here is Mellors in his blue striped apron bring across a hot crusty loaf as we speak

UniS · 23/07/2009 09:54

what a lovely tea room breakfast.Thank you Mellors et al.
in RL I'm hungry, having decided to wait till boy wakes up and get some work done while he is still sleeping. might drift up and check he's still alive. I think he's just sleeping off some of a terms worth of wearyness.

daisy99divine · 23/07/2009 10:33

bless him! DaisyBoy is making shortbread ready for "mumumy's coffee break"

Actually, here is some

UniS · 23/07/2009 11:14

and at just that point Boy woke up, he seems to be happy enough, still in his PJs even now. I can't be arsed to force him into clothes just for teh sake of it. I think a chilled out day at home may be in order before he goes to his mate for " sleepover number 1"

Ironed napkins! what ever next. it'll be starched tea towels if we don;t stop him.

Catitainahatita · 23/07/2009 14:41

Obviously the long snooze yesterday worked wonders on Mellors. Apart from all the food, ironing and starching going on, I note that the fire place has been polished and the grate cleaned. There is even a bowl of pot-pourri where the coal should be.
Lovely.

Good luck with the househunting Unis. And enjoy the absence of the boy at his sleepover (ha! will he get much sleep?) tonight

UniS · 23/07/2009 15:18

I suspect he will sleep. His friends mum has decide they will not be sharing a room, so they getto play, have tea, play, do bath & story together but then friend goes to his bedroom and boy will be in teh spare room. Both are only children so used to sleeping alone.

Dh has phoned, he cocked up, teh bike club ride was yesterday, not tonight, So we shall be going for ride on our own. still going to go and enjoy an evening out with my bloke.

Catitainahatita · 23/07/2009 17:47

Well, have a good ride. I hope the weather stays fine for you Unis.

On that note, I am alarmed to read in our local paper that we are in for a heatwave in hte next couple of weeks.

It's already too bldy hot, for goodness sake. Plus next week we also enter into what they like to term "la canícula" next week. This is the 40 day period in which the sun is nearest too us (apparently, any meterologists please correct me, I'm talking about "local lore" here) and so it's the hottest period of the year anyway. If they are announcing a heat wave as well I think I may spontaneously combust

mistlethrush · 23/07/2009 22:04

Catita - sorry for you and the heatwave - I think it is a bit different in the UK when we have a 'heatwave'!!! Not that you'd realise that from the fuss that can be made....

Sorry about sporadic posting - v. busy at work and also v. much limiting time on-line at work!!! Unless its for work things of course...

Unis - hope cycle ride was good.

bike ride WAS fun. was a try out of our new "2nd car" tandem. we both want differnt saddles, I would like a new longer stem and better pedals. but other than those few fixable gripes it was fine. I have lots of room on teh back and am getting used to trusting DH not to kill us. is very different being on back on a tandem to being on a solo bike.
Nice pie and pint at out of town pub.

Quick drop in before starting packing for cannes tomorrow.

Wriggle so excited she has fallen into a deep sleep . DH so grumpy (no doubt also excited really) that he alternates between saying 'what train?' 'what holiday?' until I could scream and refusing to take any interest in the arrangements 'you do what you like'..... oh, they are the same thing. The thing is, if anything goes wrong, it will have been all my decisions.

Lovely weather here - thundery showers and bright sunshine. No longer sure I want to go anywhere.

Have given several tons of courgettes to the chickens and put houseplants outside to enjoy the rain.

mistlethrush · 24/07/2009 20:32

Men - packing - I don't think so!

Unis - glad the ride went well.

CMOTdibbler · 25/07/2009 02:07

JM and I had a lovely time, and Jackbaby is gorgeous. A photo is on my profile

Have a lovely time in Cannes RS

Jacksmama · 25/07/2009 03:45

Tea Room Meet-Up was lovely!! CMOT looked just like her picture, thank goodness... so no wandering around looking at people and trying not to be obvious about it .
We had a lovely hour at the Sephora store in Downtown Disney (my favourite girl store - make-up, shampoos, perfumes, and all sorts of lovely things), and had one of the make-up consultants put blush on us. CMOT bought her shade, I didn't (can't be bothered with blush).
I have to admit - I was nervous. I wibbled a little before DH dropped me off - "what if she doesn't like me? What if we have nothing to talk about?" But it really was lovely. Pics on my profile too!
