Tea room the Eighth - sun, sea, sangria, and perhaps a sandy Mellors

Greetings, welcome to the eighth incarnation of the tearoom.

The tearoom has been, and will be again, a virtual safe haven for anyone up for rather random chat and a comprehensive range of virtual snacks. Nothing in the tearoom will make you fat, or drunk (unless you want it to) or cause an allergic reaction.

The new tearoom location is a beautiful beachside cafe (no need for factor 50, the virtual sun will just lightly tan you, bring out your freckles or simply warm your skin, as you prefer) with a range of garden swings, hammocks, sunloungers, deckchairs etc (as well as a rather incongruous, but well-loved, chaise longue). For those in need of sanctuary, we have managed to fashion a new priesthole out of woven grasses.

Our fellow residents include Mellors the rugged gardener of few-but-well-chosen words, the naked mohawk babies, a coterie of bishops, various domestic pets, and a selection of others. On the human side, all are welcome - while we live in the One Child topic some regulars have more than one, and we are welcome all (except people who put their heads on one side and tell those of us with one child that it's just not fair to have only one child).

Please help yourself to a glass of Champagne and a canape on the way in ...

Definitely FOR Pimms - with or without the pinot grigio mixer!

daisy99divine · 12/06/2009 15:08

yes indeedy, PIMMS is a must

CMOTdibbler · 12/06/2009 15:18

For Pimms - it can be your entire 5 a day if you try - apple, orange, lemon, strawberry and mint

Dh's fave band is Faith No More. When he phoned earlier they were all sitting around drinking jack daniels and coke. Not that I''m jealous at all.

mistlethrush · 12/06/2009 16:36

You can even put cucumber in too (Pimms) - another supporter. Although I did see a recipe for a cucumber fizz - sounded like blitzed cucumber, ice, gin, topped up with tonic. (not long to go now for the weekend! )

daisy99divine · 12/06/2009 17:30

why wait?

Let's go girls!

Catitainahatita · 12/06/2009 18:34

Hola, Well on the nursery front we had tears before we set off, when I told him where we were going; then more tears when he was being checked out in the nursery (temp taken, throat looked down, etc. It's all part of the Precautions Against Influenza); and finally screams and howls when I handed him over to the nurse.

Hmm. He never wants me to go to work generally and cried when I handed him over to his childminder. But then I knew he loved being there. He tries and drag me over to see them at any and every available opportunity. I just don't have the same confidence yet in the nursery. Plus I am a sucker for him crying. I had to stop myself running back for him and taking him away again Which would have only made matters worse, obviously.

Catitainahatita · 12/06/2009 18:38

Oh and, as I had a deprived adolescence/university life, I have never tried Pimms.

I'll vote for it anyway. It's bound to be virtually good

mistlethrush · 12/06/2009 19:27

Catita - fruit salad with alchohol - I think probably it should work OK for all of us here in the tearoom. I'm sure even Donk can have a carrot version.

thumbwitch · 12/06/2009 22:44

lol at the thought of carrot Pimms - interesting, definitely, and why not? Must try it next time, with extremely thin slices, perhaps curls, of carrot.

not on here long tonight - DS was in a manic mood and had to be brought to bed with me to settle him down; have just shipped him off to his own cot but he's very sweaty, albeit not high temperature - not sure what that's all about, cos it's not that hot... Have not put him in his sleeping bag just in case.

thumbwitch · 13/06/2009 00:49

Yoohoo, JM - are you about?

Jacksmama · 13/06/2009 02:32

Crap, that 8 hour time difference really screws things up. Had to go to the grocery store and get stuff for dinner. Bet you're not up anymore... and if you are... WHY????

thumbwitch · 13/06/2009 09:14

no, definitely gone to bed by then!
never mind, we'll chat another time.

mistlethrush · 13/06/2009 19:33

Had a 'funday' at school at which I was doing a stall - started on the chilly side - I had my fleece with me. However, almost as soon as we got there, the sun came out and it was out for the entire time. Unfortunately no sun screen had been done as it had been overcast - I'm slightly red in places, but it will be brown tomorrow. MJ is just more tanned. DH on the other hand....

DontCallMeBaby · 13/06/2009 19:43

Time differences are RUBBISH - DH went to Maryland earlier in the year, and DD couldn't talk to him the whole time (only a week) that he was gone. It's only a five hour difference, but when we were up in the morning it was 3am over there, then when he was up it was lunchtime or so here, but I was at work and DD at school, by the time we were at home he was working, and then by the time HE was out of work, DD was in bed!

Is there any Pimms about this evening? I feel it would enhance the retro Depeche Mode moment I'm having here.

Hi all!
Finally had to look up Pimms... after all this talk about it. Sounds a bit dodgy to me but then who am I to talk - I'm still drinking the really horrible wine with lemonade added to make it palatable. Actually, we were out of lemonade yesterday so I had to add what we had - apple-lime juice. Which was actually even better .
Would anyone like some?

Have just finished work and will be going to yoga class shortly. Hot yoga which is a a little as it's hot and sunny out... in theory I could just do yoga outside at home but then the neighbours would probably be a bit . Especially for some of the bottoms-up kind of poses like Downward Dog. Jackbaby has recently taken to copying me and doing what we call the Downward Puppy . He gets on all fours (hands and feet) and then rests his head down on the floor and takes his arms away so he's balancing on his head and his feet. Pretty impressive actually, I don't think I could so that.

I had a moment with a prospective patient yesterday. She was referred to me by a patient who sees both me and DH. (We work together.) DH goes by his first name in the office. I do with some patients whom I've had for as long as I've lived here but most of my patients call me Dr. Surname or at the very least Dr. First Name (let's say Dr. JM). So I got an email from a woman addressing me as "Dear JM, I'm a friend of so-and-so's" which sort of set my teeth on edge. (Warning: JM feeling arsey). I just really don't think I'd have the nerve to address a professional whom I haven't met yet by his or her first name.
So she continues and tells me about her problems and then says she's been warned by a phsyiotherapist not to "have a chiropractor crunch her neck".
I hate when people say that!!!!!! I didn't go to school for God knows how many years to have a skill I've spent thousands of hours perfecting put down as "crunching people's necks"!!!!! It blows me away how many people think it's ok to say that. They don't refer to having a massage as "having a little rub-down"!! Why is it ok to use such a horrible term about my profession??

So I emailed her back very politely, I thought, saying that I'd be happy to take a look at her problem - but also saying that as a chiropractor, of course I do spinal manipulation but that not everyone is a candidate and that if she preferred not to have it done, then that was fine... but I couldn't stop myself from being a bit arsey and saying "I assume that's what you're referring to when you say "crunching". Sincerely, Dr. JM Surname."
AIBU???

CMOTdibbler · 13/06/2009 21:25

When the osteopath manipulates my neck it makes some spectacular crunching noises, but then it does normally. I rather like that bit, and confess that I do think of it as going to have my neck crunched'

We've had a lovely day today - mini rugby, then a go on the minature steam railway, lunch, big nap for DS, cooking, reading

DS tells me that he has 'a baby brother and sister in his tummy'. Whilst making his tummy go in and out as 'the babies are wiggling'. Oh, and he's going to 'make pink milk' from his boobies to feed the babies. Nowt wrong with his imagination !

thumbwitch · 13/06/2009 22:06

JM - my osteopath definitely cracks my neck (as opposed to crunching it) - and my spine, but not my pelvis because it is too stubborn and refuses. I don't consider that as a belittlement of what he does, just as a pure onomatopoeic* representation.
HOWever, in context I can see why it would pee you off immensely - I also used to hate it when people first met me and immediately called me by my first name. I never did it to them!

And as a massage therapist, I can (re)assure you that lots of people think it is just a bit of a soothing rub - that is until they've had a treatment with me when they learn their mistake (MWAAAhahahahaha!)

*Do I get points for using that word, do I? Huh?

Pimms over here please - with dry ginger ale, though - definitely not lemonade Actually I have taken to having it with half dry ginger ale and half fizzy water - reduces the sticky sweetness even more.

Catitainahatita · 14/06/2009 04:28

Evening. I'm just off to bed before our mamoth trip tomorrow. I hope it all goes well and I´ll be back for a cuppa soon.

mistlethrush · 14/06/2009 22:49

Catita - I hope mamoth trip goes OK! Please bring back something interesting for the tearoom from your travels.

When I go to the osteopath they definitely crack my neck, not cruch it - if they are really good they get to do it before I think that they are going to do it and so I've not tensed - when I think that they are going to do it I do try to relax, but knowing what's coming, its difficult! I generally end up giggling!!!!!

I'm a bit that my osteopath's here in the north don't manage to so sacroilliac joints (and I have absolutely no idea how to spell that - but that's what it sounds like) as I went to a fabulous one once a year in Wales (to do with music course) who did manage to get it working better when I saw him. However, a 4 hr trip (one-way) for an osteopaht appointment seems a bit much really!

Are we still on Pimms? Good oh!

DontCallMeBaby · 15/06/2009 14:51

Ooh, ooh, look! I am quite genuinely delighted (honestly, not taking the piss) to be deemed closest to getting it right by a mother of nine! See, motherhood of only one really doesn't make you utterly clueless!

well done DCMB you parenting guru!
been a quiet weekend here hasn't it, the tearoom has lost out to RL good weather!
JM don't fret. You should hear what people think it is acceptable to say to me - the number of lawyer "jokes" I have to grit my teeth and smile at. I just put it down to their fear of being in the presence of a superior being

CMOTdibbler · 15/06/2009 20:33

It was beautiful wasn't it ? DH has returned from festival very tanned. DS and I went to the zoo yesterday and had a lovely time in their new waterplay area.

When I tell people what I do, they tell me that 'they were never any good at physics'. It was tiresome approx 15 years ago

daisy99divine · 15/06/2009 23:59

ha ha MadBad, that is nothing it's the "you are only in it for the money" and the "professional courtesy with sharks" jokes that get on my tits nerves!

Donk · 16/06/2009 08:24

I know what you mean about the Physics comments CMOT!
And when people ask what DH does (especially for surveys), I have taken to grinning before I reply "Clinical cytogeneticist". It always causes a long silence.
