6 year old boy here. He’s spent a lot of today doing jigsaw puzzles and Lego. We’ve also played a couple of games and he’s read some of his chapter book.

Mine now 8, but it hasn’t changed recently.

It’s mostly Lego, sometimes magnetic tiles, sometimes elaborate magnetic tile buildings that the Lego vehicles park in, fly around etc.

He also does a little maths and reading each day, helps bake sometimes, helps with gardening or tidying rooms sometimes.

8 years old, so not much older. what he does hasn’t really changed.

  • drawing and junk modelling
  • taking apart some old electronics to see how they work
  • reading
  • playing with magnetic blocks and stikbots
  • nintendo switch (super mario maker)
  • scratch programming on family computer
  • hoework and spellings
He does some organised sports as well (not today though), and we went to the park

Reading, writing books/comics, researching things he’s interested in on his iPad (mostly history/monarchs/greek myths currently), drawing, making up games with his sister, junk modeling, play doh/modelling clay/clay, painting, Magnatiles, generally playing in the garden…

We do a lot of stuff outside the home - swimming, bike/trike rides, going to zoos/aquariums, walks etc. so tbh I’m not too bothered if he spends an afternoon watching films or Horrible Histories. He needs down time to rest and recharge after a busy week as much as I do!

Mine will moan and ask for the iPad or the Switch even if he knows it's when he's not allowed screens. As part of his goal to prove that nothinggg is fun except screens, he will reject all my suggestions, so I just leave him to find something to do. Usually he will read comic books or kids' poems, play with his figures, play Bop It, or play with Blu Tack and glue dots (he and his friends all have an inexplicable obsession with them). If I have recycling he also loves junk modelling but only if he cleans up after himself and promises not to waste all the glue/tape.
