ive been looking into universal credit as may need to claim for this. I have a 3 year old who starts school in September. Am I right in thinking that I have to look for 30 hours of work? If I say work 16 hours and get paid £900 a month do I still have to look for work for the rest of the hours? Or can I just work that 16, I’m so confused

The expectation is that you will seek 30 hours work. However, this is where the confusion arises, if you earn the equivalent of 18 hours at minimum wage (currently 892) you will not need to have work search appointments. This administrative earnings threshold will rise when the minimum wage rises in April.

My understanding is you can work less hours if you meet the AET.

The AET is gross income as well, not take home pay :)
