It's been a terrible year and need something to look forward to planning on taking dc (7) to Disneyland at some point so will start saving! When is the best age? Also as we only have one, dh and I will have to go on all the rides with him!! We are early 40s now so need to not be too decrepit!

Paris?

We’ve been at 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5 and should be there now at 10. Sad

All very different trips but all very awesome.

We don’t spend more than £1k for a week including food.

I think it depends a bit on why you want to go. If you want to go for the magic, then I'd say fairly soon - yes it is magical at any age, but i think 8 and under still really believe in it all which is lovely. If you want him to be able to get on all of the big rides then I'd say 10 is probably better.

We took dd at 4 and that was great so he's certainly not too young.

DD, 3.5, reassuring me as we went in with her ESPECIALLY LOUD SHOUTY VOICE:

“DON’T WORRY MUMMY. THEY’RE JUST GROWN UPS DRESSED UP”.

Every age has its bonus.

We went at 2.5yrs - total wonder and amazement - really believed characters were real. Real lump in throat stuff.

6yrs - some of the above but different character interest and LOVED age appropriate rides.

10yrs - not interested in magic and wonder, all about the thrills, rides and experiences.

We took our DD at 9 she loved the characters, and little kids rides and by the end of the week the big adult rides were her favourite. I will never forget how her face lit up with such amazement & wonder at the firework and light show at the end of the first day.

We took DS for the first time when he was 7 and it was magical. The second time he was 10, and the third time 19. We were due to go this year but covid put paid to that. DS isn't an only, but is the much younger of three so his brothers had grown up and left home by the time we went the first time. DH was 51 (54 second time) and loved it as much as DS did.

rookiemere · 01/10/2020 22:33

We went when DS was 7 and it was amazing. He was young enough to still want to get his autograph book filled by the characters, but old enough to have enough stamina for a full day and do the rides.

We went at 4 and 5. There was quite a bit of whinging. I think between 6 and 10 would be great

movingonup20 · 01/10/2020 22:47

We took ours as toddlers, then at 5 then at 8 then at 15. They lived it every time and got different things from it (did CA, FL and Paris)

I took DS when he was 4. It’s quite big I was quite shocked. There’s lot of walking so when I saw younger children I did wonder did they not find it tiring walking and queuing.

We took a buggy to Disney long after DD had given it up at home.

@Feminist10101 great idea I think it’s wise. It’s not the sort of holiday I would want to do with a child much younger than 4. Although I know DLP seems popular for all ages.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 02/10/2020 20:16

My DC1 was an only when I took him to DLP at nearly-four and just-turned-five. Both really magical holidays. He’s 8 now and I can imagine he and I would have a really brilliant holiday at this age too (but no longer an only so less straightforward!).

When my son ( an only) was little , Disneyland at Paris didn’t exist so Florida was our only option. We wanted my son to be old enough to cope with the flight/ time difference. He was 5 and it was absolutely perfect timing. He was so excited and also loved the other theme parks
