Exposing my baby to chicken pox

Just asking for some advise /opinions I guess
My LB is 6 months old and last week end we went to see family and a family member had chicken pox and they didn’t tell us till we had been there for around half a hour once I found out and we left shortly after . But then was meant to be seeing family again on Tuesday and the same family member still had chicken pox (fresh spots had come out ) so they was not all scabbed over . So I said that I didn’t think it was a good idea to take my 6 month old baby where he could catch it knowingly . The family kicked off saying I was been over cautious! But there is also the fact that I have never had chicken pox as a 23 year old adult so my LB hasn’t even had my immunity’s from it and also could not just cause my baby to be ill but could also cause me to be very ill which could then mean my partner having time off work . I just want to know peoples views on this . I am a first time mum so I might be being a bit cautious but surly it’s better to be that way ????

You are correct. They are clowns.

I am the first to roll my eyes at first time parents and their PFBs but I would avoid CP exposure if possible. It was shitty of them not to tell you the first time.

I'd be royally ticked off that they didn't tell you the first time! Chickenpox before 2 years doesn't even confer the same immunity as chickenpox thereafter, and increases the likelihood of catching it again or of developing shingles. Bloody clowns. I'd be giving them very short shrift.

Friendsofmine · 27/02/2020 00:33

I had chicken pox at 14 and it was so awful I was hospitalised and it can be really bad as an adult. I therefore completely agree with you that the pair of you catching it now (trying to care for 6 month old?!) would be a disaster.

Literal idiots I don’t know what is wrong with some people. How selfish to not tell you, for all they knew you could be pregnant again or anything! And the last thing you or such a young baby needs is the chicken pox anyway! For you, would it be worth considering getting the vaccine ? I know very little about it only that it exists.

Leahloumum · 27/02/2020 15:15

That's it I have rang the drs about getting vacation but they said they will look Into it . But this is it there has been a mass family argument over it !! It's pathetic !!! I knew I was right even the dr told us to both stay away !!

I had chicken pox terribly as a kid, so I got the vaccine for my 2 year old daughter.

The nurse who gave the injection said she has a lot of doctors bringing their own kids, as they see the worst cases and know how horrid it can be.

It was £140 for the full course, we did it at a local Superdrug in their clinic at the back of the shop!

I’m very glad we did it
(Not sure what the situation is during Coronavirus of course)
