Hey all. Im just venting my feelings here. Im starting a new job this weekend , working 10 hours every weekend (5 sat, 5 sun). My maternity leave is up and my daughter is only 6 month old. I know I dont have the leave her for an extremely long amount of time but im jus feeling guilty, anxious and emotional about it all.

I feel guilty that I want to work , as I dont know how much more of being in the house I can take. Im feeling bad because I did a benefits calculator thing , and bascially working this job il only get £20 more than I would in benefits , so im thinking I should just stay with my daughter , but I really want to get out of the house and do something for me.

Shes going to be left with her dad which makes me feel better rather than her being in child care. Im also sad because now me & the partner only have 1 day together a week.

But I feel I do need to try and look on the bright side.... only 10 hours , abit more money rather than benefits... chance of making friends... makes me appreciate my time at home more.

Thanks for listening ❤

I had a wobble just before going back to work after mat leave - I kept saying that ideally I would stay at home for two years. I considered just giving up work and not going back. But - I loved it!! I need the break and adult company. You may like it more than you think. I’d love my OH to be totally in charge of my child for chunks of time - he’d realise how much hard work it is Grin
Try it - and if it’s awful you could quit - but try it at least at first

Hey , thank you for your comment. Although the money for this job is half of my maternity pay 🥺 me and the parnter could do with the money so its not really like I have a choice 😳 But I agree. Hes looked after her the occasional time when I met up with my friends. But he says I have it so easy at home all day watching TV 😂 Hope he can appreciate what I do abit more x

If it only pays 20 pound more than benefits I think you can afford to give it a go and if it works and you enjoy it, keep it up. If not then you can probably afford to leave.

But I think it's completely normal to want something for you and if it helps your mental health it will make the time you do have with your daughter even better.

And, it's great when the OH has time to appreciate what you do all week. Hope you enjoy your new job!
