Me and DH are 95% certain we are happy with having our one DS after 4 years of TTC for baby no2 we've decided we quite like how life is and tbh it's very nice finally being able to relax and to focus all our attention on DS and also both being able to work too!

I just need a little bit of help getting that extra 5% out of the way, so please tell me your pros to being a 1 child family. X

no longer TTC

The obvious financial benefits.

No resentments between siblings about how parental money / attention is divided.

Having one fewer child is by far and away the best thing you can do for your carbon footprint.

earlgreymarl you’ve just describe my life completely.* Sounds naive but I wanted to be done having babies by the time I was 30. Never crossed my mind only having the one but our life seems perfect now.* Xx

Practise saying "1 is right for us"

1 is right for us .. right now ....but I’m not sure how I’ll feel next year and then it will be far too late ( I’m 40 nearly 41)
It’s so difficult to draw a line under it isn’t it? Ds will be 5 soon so again I think the age gap will be too great anyway

But it’s difficult to just decide that’s it

I had a severe postpartum haemorrhage after DD was born (3 day labour). I've always imagined having 2 kids as me and my brother are really close, but I am terrified of what could go wrong. I can think of lots of benefits to having an only child but I'm struggling to let go of my mental image of what my family would look like. It's so hard isn't it.

I'd like to add my experience to this thread even though all the kids mentioned are 7 years older!
I'm 72, my kid is 42 & her kid is 5! As you can see she agrees with me that a one child family is perfect!
I didn't work but educated her at home until secondary school when she took to school like a duck in water & enjoyed it. Now she's a professor I'm proud to say. Unlike me she's worked most of her life. But that's another issue.
Having 1 child has lots of advantages, most of all because they like to socialise & can choose who to spend their time with unlike siblings who have to jostle with other kids at home.
