Welcome to the Tea rooms newest incarnation. A cozy log cabin with a roaring log fire, comfy chintz sofas and a dedicated man about the house, our Butler, Mellors. Out of the windows you can see sparkling white snow gently drifted up under the green Christmas trees and bright blue skies. Children can all be packed off to play healthy outdoor stuff while we stay snug n warm in here with our mulled wine, tea, artisan hot chocolate and other beverages served in mugs, glasses or buckets.

The usual rules apply - no fisticuffs. And no messing with the aspidistra.

Did anyone bring the cardboard George Clooney along when we moved here or is he still at in the last tea room incarnation?

When we move again for the summer maybe we should get the horses back?

I am sure that, if we root around in the tea room's capacious cupboards, we will find the cardboard cutout of George Clooney that was liberated from outside a cinema very many tea rooms ago.

mistlethrush · 21/04/2014 22:11

I'm sure someone brought George along - even if it was only Mellors (to give him some time off!).

We've had periods of 'lovely boy' and periods of absolute horridness (mainly associated with eardrops... how they can be made so bad by his behaviour when he's agreed that they don't hurt, its just not comfortable... He makes such a meal of it and works himself up so much its impossible to put in...

Donki · 22/04/2014 07:26

We had a wonderful weekend...
But the YD finds returning to school after the holidays very difficult. This morning may be difficult.
He is saying "I would rather die than go to school" as he lies in bed.
It is not hyperbole :(

mistlethrush · 22/04/2014 08:48

It is very sad that YD finds it so difficult at school to make him feel like that. MC went through a period of that sort of thing when he was 5 / 6 - but it wasn't voiced that it was because of school - we only confirmed that it was school when he got a teacher that 'got' him in Year 2 and that turned things round. He's had good teachers each year since then (long may it continue).

Isn't today a let-down weather-wise after the weekend! We have been remarkably active for us - Dales on Sat, various things on Sun including trip out to a nearby NT place, and Castle Howard yesterday. There was an amazing 'falconry' display where all the birds were eagles or vultures. The dog was very interested!

Donki · 22/04/2014 09:24

Well, the YD is at school - and without a meltdown!
He did really well to get there.

(And I was pleased with my management of the situation, if I do say so myself)

That's an excellent start to the school term, Donki. Well done to you both.

Scout19075 · 22/04/2014 12:18

Well done, YD. Going to school when you don't want to can be tough.

MrScout is in The Big Smoke today so SB are driving home ourselves to get back in time for swim class. Not sure if we're in YOUC or neighboring one but our lunch stop is packed with children. Schools in Scoutshire are meant to be in session today, hence swim class (lessons follow term time).

Misfitless · 22/04/2014 16:50

Hope that YD and all the others had a good first day back. It's such a long day for them, isn't it.

How old are everyone's children? Sorry if I've already asked this one, but if I have I can't remember the answers.

I've just picked mine up and they've gone to their Grandma's for tea. It's so peaceful in my house right now. The only sound is the tapping of the keyboard.l...bliss!

Hope MB's (is that the right nn?) ears are better soon, MT. Is it a recurrent problem?

Donki · 22/04/2014 20:04

The YD is 11 and in year 6.
His day went quite well I think - he was very happy to miss Literacy and PE (which he hates) because STARS (Autism resource teachers) were in school to work with him.

He did miss his best friend, who must have been ill.

UniS · 22/04/2014 20:22

back to school for boy. he walked in with a friend today. managed to put his water bottle in his bag not done up and had wet shorts when he got to school. So spent the day in pe shorts.
St Georges day tomorrow so he can wear cub uniform to school.
I'm working long ish days all week. Have done lots of walking with heavy wheelbarrow on a big site today. I'm borrowing mellors and his massage services for an hour.

Unis disapeers in a flurry of fluffy towels and nice smalling oils.

SmallBoy will be four-and-a-half at the end of the week. EEK! He doesn't go to nursery/day care/preschool and won't be starting Reception in September.

Today was first swim class of term and the first time in four years SB and his BFF weren't in the same class -- she moved up a level and SB is staying in the preschool class until September (he's nearly there/able to move up and probably could have gone, too, if I wanted him to, but I thought he could do with one more term in his current class where it's during the school day so the pool is quieter). SB has been quite stoic about it but BFF kept whinging all day about not swimming with her BF.

We're off to the lab in YOUT again tomorrow for part two of the study SB is participating in. He loves going (he participated in a study last summer and had to go for two sessions then, too).

Had it dawned on me that tomorrow is St George's Day I'd have scheduled to go to the lab on another day and stayed home with SB and made flags and things. I really must memorize British holidays so I can plan/prepare for them the way I do the American ones.

Did anyone watch any of the Boston Marathon yesterday?

UniS · 22/04/2014 22:35

Oh - for misfitless, boy is 8.

I'm back - the massage was lovely, the chicken soup not bad and the marmalade sandwiches were awesome, thank you mellors.

On the down side, washing machine decided to become enbuggered. My work clothes were in it mid wash, and very dirty. ratz. SO my feet had a second bath as I trod the washing in the bath and then rinsed it all off. All now drip drying on the line overnight. Ho HUm. We can get through to friday I think ( counts work trousers and T-shirts in her head, comes up with an OK number if I wear shorts one day), then I'll get a service wash down as I'm working in nearest city. Have to get an engineer out on tuesday.

Mellors does a mean withers and ear rub too - and his carrot cake is just right. Not too sweet, and lots of sultanas, just the way I like.
He also has the only decaff tea that I genuinely can't tell from a good Assam.
Plus lots of other flavours - you would feel right at home MT

Donki · 23/04/2014 08:15

Good luck with the washing machine UniS

mistlethrush · 23/04/2014 09:22

Our washing machine broke down on the day I brought DS home with me from the hospital (good timing or what!) - so our machine is now 9 years old!!! It is doing remarkably well and hasn't put a foot wrong (despite what has had to be fished out of the rubber seal at times).

MC (Mistlechick) has decided that he's not going to have any more eardrops in. I have warned him that if the infection comes back we'll have to start the course again - but he is adamant (and its very difficult getting drops in his ear when he doesn't want to cooperate - its bad enough when he's sort of trying to help!). Misfits - yes, its an on-going problem - he has a permanently perforated eardrum from when he had a low-level infection for ages when he was a toddler and the Drs dismissed it... We are hoping to get it mended - we now have the letter to get the consultant appointment and have just been waiting for this infection to clear up.

Donki - it will probably not surprise you to hear that I have my own tea at work too - at the moment I only have 3 different varieties!

Misfitless · 23/04/2014 19:02

Oh MT Sad poor MC. So this has been going on for about 7 years or so....Shock? Sorry to hear that.

Donki · 24/04/2014 07:24

Question of the day.
Will I get the Young Donki to school in good time?

mistlethrush · 24/04/2014 09:08

Hope it went well Donki and you got there in time.

Lovely sunny day - hope you're going to be able to be out and about or at least in the garden (mine is always available if you finish yours!)

(Misfits, Donki and I fortuitously live in the same place - a few miles away but fairly easily doable!)

Donki · 24/04/2014 09:25

Yay!
The YD to school on time.

And I have found another Mum I know who's hours compliment mine and would be willing to help with a puppy if we don't find a suitable adult.

Now waiting at the GP's

Misfitless · 24/04/2014 10:55

I thought so..how nice. Friends through mn, or friends before, I wonder?

Outing myself again, most definitely this time, but I actually live next door to school. When I say we can sometimes hear the bell ringing as we are racing up the path, I'm not exaggerating, so I am taking my hat of to you, Donki!

If I had a £1 for every time someone's said "You live next door, how can you be late?" and all that...

Donki · 24/04/2014 11:41

Misfitless - it is a Tea Room friendship.
